But it can turn on the TV and switch inputs depending on the TV of course. I figured if it can turn it on, it should be able to turn it off.
Bought one of these yesterday at Best Buy. They had plent in stock. This thing is awesome. Great picture quality and no lag.
They're available on the BB website right now. BTW- I bought mine last week, received it yesterday and never received a Netflix code. Is that promotion over?
I ordered mine about two weeks ago and got a Netflix code the day after I placed it. You should definitely call Best Buy customer service.
They must have ran out of Chromecast that still had the Netflix codes. The first two I bought shows the Netflix 3 months as part of the Order Confirmation email. I bought two more last week and I did not see that in the email. That sucks.
While the Chromecast streams perfect Netflix, I wish they would update the UI so that it automatically loads the next episode or you can choose from the episode list. As is, I have to stop the cast, load the next episode on my screen, then recast. Anyone know of a more efficient way to load videos?
So mine came from GooglePlay Had to go into my router and disable the AP Isolation so they could talk But even though I plugged the HDMI through my AVR I had no sound I pulled an optical out from the TV and got sound but I don't think it was 5:1 suggestions?
A small step in the right direction. http://gigaom.com/2013/09/16/youtube-chromecast-embedded-web-player/ YouTube starts testing Chromecast support for third-party websites by Janko Roettgers SUMMARY: YouTube is starting to let users beam videos to their Chromecast devices from any website. YouTube quietly started to add support for Chromecast to its embedded web player, allowing users of Google’s TV dongle to beam videos displayed on third-party websites straight from their browser to their TV. Previously, casting was only supported from YouTube.com. Some Chromecast users started reporting in recent days that they had seen the dongle’s play to TV button popping up on embedded videos on Google+ as well as other sites. Testing this, I was able to cast videos from a few third-party sites, including GigaOM.com. However, the button seems to show up randomly, and may not be available for everyone, or for every video, as it is part of a test. Here’s what a YouTube spokesperson had to say: “With more videos coming to YouTube every minute we’re always experimenting with ways to help people more easily find, watch and share the videos that matter most to them. As always, we’ll consider rolling changes out more broadly based on feedback on these experiments.” tweet this Adding Chromecast support to videos embedded on third-party sites does make a lot of sense for YouTube, as it could get people to watch videos for longer periods of time, and in turn display more ads. YouTube already lets users beam any video from YouTube.com as well as from its mobile apps to a Chromecast device.
I'm having a very simular issue as well. It looks like my AVR cannot decode Chromecast's Dolby 5.1, all I hear is static. I have to use the option on my phone to stream it in stereo. My TV is mounted on the wall with all the HDMI's hidden behind it, and I currently don't have an optical out ran. I guess I don't really care about it enough to take the TV down and run one... But I can relate to your fustration with the audio issues. I barely use the thing because of it.
Are you using a laptop? I've been using my Nexus 7 to stream Netflix to the chromecast and it's a lot easier and intuitive to use.
Damn, so the 5.1ch issue is still around? It's the only thing keeping me from grabbing one. Really wanted to use the chrome plugin and splashtop to control the pc.
I plugged the HDMI to my HDMI 2 on the TV and pulled an optical out from the TV to my AVR and I get whatever sound format that Netflix encodes. I watched The Avengers in full surround. now how do I get pron on this thing?
1. Grab WifiMouse from Play Store 2. Launch WifiMouse on phone with your left hand (or right if you're a lefty) 3. Lock your door 4. Hit "Cast entire screen"
So if I launch NBA league pass broadband on Chrome from my laptop, it will work on my HDMI TV? I might look further into this.
Yep, that's exactly how it works. But you really need a good computer and a good wifi connection for it to work well.
I just emailed the NBA league pass guys about this. Although you can watch through a Chrome tab, it'd be nice to be able to get a direct stream via the NBA Game Time app. Since they support Apple TV, they may be amenable to adding Chromecast support if enough people voice their support. If anyone else is open to asking them for this support, trying shooting an email to these guys here: nbasupport@neulion.com
