There is no doubt that some of this is true. But I also have little doubt that some of it is also fabricated and exaggerated.

And shame on the Pulitzer prize winner. He should have said that most of his sources were kicked off the team for a whole slew or reasons including: crime/grades/drugs. Especially if the last part is supposed to be about how they were cast aside after no longer being useful.

Has the whole world gone crazy? Am I the only one around here who gives a **** about the rules?

How does the quote and sentence jive?

Note that he never says the allegations were false. Just "disappointing". Sounds like he knows they're busted.

Is anyone really surprised by this? OSU was a non-contender for YEARS, and then suddenly they're one of, if not THE, strongest teams in the Big 12? We all knew something was up.

Kind of related, but Jalen Rose talked quite a bit (first 30 min of podcast) about his recruiting experience and his thoughts regarding the allegations
    <iframe width="480" height="360" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/kbLwFOkMnuY?rel=0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Basically, he claims that paying players/recruiting tactics involving parties/drug and alcohol use are all the norm across the country. He specifically denies academic and legal leniency.

I think OSU is getting singled out unfairly in their meteoric rise. Why not look at Baylor or Louisville? How about Indiana basketball?

Yeah, as I told my brother-in-law and sister: at first I was worried. then I was angry at the players. then i was angry at the writers. now I'm just embarrassed for SI.

They interviewed a bunch of players kicked off the team and followed it up with 0 actual investigative work. They throw quotes in that support their argument, but don't appear to be accurate. And they bend the truth at all possible turns.

Every other page seems to have a contradiction from previous assertions.

How many people were kicked off the team exactly? SI apparently talked to at least 30 players.

    http://espn.go.com/college-football...-cowboys-players-describe-widespread-drug-use

In all, 30 players told SI that they used mar1juana when they were members of the football team. Players told the publication that some teammates even used drugs before games.

"[Against] teams we knew we were going to roll, a couple of guys would get high," Calvin Mickens, a cornerback at Oklahoma State from 2005 to 2007, said, according to SI. "Some of the guys, [it] didn't matter what game it was, they were going to get high."

Three former players admitted to SI that they dealt drugs in the 2001, 2004 and 2006 seasons, while others said former teammates dealt drugs during seven other seasons.

Yeah, no longer worried... just embarrassed for SI at this point. Today was supposed to be the hardest hitting content, but again unsubstantiated rumors that contradicted itself and earlier assertions.. They went after the low hanging fruit, but failed to do the legwork.

I'm just happy Yahoo didn't go after OSU.

The only thing I worry about is that most people in our country are told what to think and they like it. You can read several of the posts in this thread and see that many people have never read the articles but still believe them. They would rather say, "yup their bad cause SI said so, hang em". I believe that Thayer Evans has ended his career and ruined any credibility he may have had but in the end he still made OSU look bad and that is what he wanted.

At this point they could print a retraction and it wouldn't matter, the damage is done.

I guess they realllly want to make sure they don't sued over this part.

Maybe they are in process of firing him and figuring out what to do with the rest of the terrible story.

Read this, "people have pointed this out. If you go to SI and click the drop down for all their writers, Thayer Evans is no longer listed." at pistolsfiring comments
