We really appreciate the kind words and try the chile con queso again please. This morning we changed the recipe completely back to more peppers, a little thinner etc. and will have it consistently the same from here on out. We're gonna get right the way everybody wants it. Also, in case you didn't see the new items menu, we added some new sandwiches and two new breads, a white bun and a jalapeno cheese bun and will will make any combination, hot or cold, on any bread. Yesterday I made a cold ham/pastrami/provolone/tomato/mayo/jalapeno on white bun and it was excellent. Thanks, Jake's Management.
Jake's Philly Steaks and Rockets Games Rockets tonight and tomorrow night....I'm out for a week; Hank, Blake, and Liann will take great care of you; any problems or critisms I'll answer to when I get back...we appreciate your support and go Rockets, Go Texans, and Go whomever you like. Thanks, Jake's Management.
TCU and Jake's Sorry I also meant to add my pops and his dad were professors at TCU and we would love to figure out TCU games and stuff again.
I'm usually not one to bump old threads, but I wanted to send this to the top as a reminder to people that it's a great place to go for games. Hank and Blake have both done a great job (as well as the female bartender.....Liann?). They have kept their word in extending the happy hour through games, always kept our glasses full (very important), and even gave free rounds a couple of times. They have been very down to earth and always open to an opinion or suggestion. I usually don't eat there, but when I have, the food has been better than I expected. Get the #5 combo (be sure to ask for the "ClutchFans" special to save a couple bucks), and if you need sauce with anything, ask for the jalapeno ranch. The only improvements I could suggest are.....get the smokers away from the doors, or at least push the outside tables toward the door further from the bar since less people sit near that one, and because the door closer to the bar has a no smoking sign about 3 feet from it in the window. Also, I think I speak for most people when I say they prefer a cold/clean glass versus a used one. Instead of refilling the glass someone just used, give them a new one. This doesn't always happen, but I've noticed it more than once. Overall, I'd give them a 9/10. They've definitely exceeded my expectations. Spoiler No, I don't own stock in the company, so if you want to be a smart ass, go do it somewhere else. I'm just giving credit where credit is due, something that's usually rare around here.
Written up for health violations this week. http://blogs.houstonpress.com/eating/2013/01/health_department_round_up_pho.php#more
Cant say I am surprised. I have been like 4 times and every time I have gone (at what normally are peak hours) the place has been relatively empty. Of course theyre gonna get lax on their duties. Not good to get written up so early in new management. Yall need to get your act together.
Any suggestions on where to watch the game tonight? I'm thinking about going to Buffalo Wild Wings or Coaches, but not really in the mood for the crowd.
Jake's Philly Steaks and Rockets Games We're going to try and answer a few of these, one at a time. We thank you for your 9/10 rating. We try and always ask if you want a new cold glass or the same one. If we don't, we can always get you a fresh, cold, glass. In the next few months we will be expanding and adding another 1,440sq. ft, outdoor patio area for the smokers, doubling our seating capacity, stage for live music and/or live sports radio broacasts, games, darts, and doubling our bar size and coolers, etc. The new space will stay with the Jake's color concept, but we are replacing with all new tables, chairs, bar stools, wall candy, additional HD TV's, additional parking, etc. Thank you from Jake's.
Jake's Philly Steaks and Rockets games "Violations"; unless the individual actually understands the nature and extent of the violations, they can be pretty meaningless; although always needing attention and correction. Our violations were for such things as the back door to the kitchen needs a new seal. The cooks have a radio above the hand wash sink, needs to be moved. We have to have a "licensed" food rep. on location at all times; our licensed cook had stepped out for twenty minutes at exactly the same time the health inspector showed up. Our kitchen is undergoing some growing pains and "remodeling"; the health inspector did not like where we keep our clean towels next to where we dispose of our dirty towels. We had no food, prep, temperature, dirt, bug, or ice issues; which I would consider to be the main criteria if you are goiong to judge a restaurant or bar. None of the issues by the health inspector resulted in any fines whatsoever. Among other things, we have an extensive insurance policy that requires us at all time to remain clean, safe, and within all codes. Thank you, Jake's.
Jake's Philly Steaks and Rocket Games I'm not sure we have a "peak" hour yet. Since we bought Jake's last September, we have increased gross sales over 25%. In talking to numerous Jake's customers, the stigma has always been that Jake's is a lunch spot and many ddn't even know we had full bar or late night sports, or food until 2:00 A.M. That change takes time. I can assure you that management has not taken a lax attitute after a few months, quite the opposite....we have introduced a full bar, happy hour specials, 18 draft beers (a new complete CO2mix charge system with all new plumbing and lines) and 50 beer offerings in total, new wine selections, an expanded menu, fully making fresh most of our salad dressings including a new jalapeno ranch, breading and making fresh our onion rings, fried pickles, mushrooms, chicken tenders, etc. and gradually moving towards a menu that will have little to none in the frozen department (and I would venture to say there are few to no restaurants that can offer or even attempt to offer that). We have upgraded our beef and chicken in a time when most restaurants are cutting corners and buying lessor grade meats due to dramatic price increases. And we're expanding and adding another 1,440 sq ft. and more games and more TV's, and more bar area, and more quality seats. But we also understand, if you're the person that gets that one inconsistant meal, or that one bad french fry or onion ring, or that one piece of over or undercooked chicken, then we're no good. But believe me, we are doing anything but slowing down or not paying attention to detail and customer satisfaction. Thank you, Jake's.
Jake's Philly Steaks and Rocket Games And finally, we added another large screen for Rockets games and we have started to have a following of more and more repeat customers including some 20 year ex professional sports figures that consider Jake's one of the nicer places to frequent in terms of friendleness, food quality, cleaniness, and overall customer satisfaction. We had a private party for a group last month that said it was the best evening thay have ever had for their charity event and certain people involved in that party have already made reservations this year for their charitable events. We had a guy here for Superbowl that had been to Jakes the previous 4 Superbowls.....he told us the place was an incredible change, and that in past years there wouldn't be more than 10 people in the place...this year we had over 40 customers with reserved seating alone. So we may get some bad reviews and write-ups, but on the flip side we must be doing something right. We always thank all of you clutch fans for your critique, good or bad. Thank you, Jake's.
I always enjoy watching games here. The Queso fajita philly is the best one to me.... My only complaint would be the servers going in an out for smokes, but it's a bar so eh i guess i cant complain
Wall candy??? Is that what I hope it is?? <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/3pwvB4_Te8A" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Jake's Philly Steaks and Rockets Games My favorite as well, but I like it with just meat and queso, no pico. Unfortunately we have three bartenders that smoke, and we try to have them do it discreetly, but that's hard to do. Nobody on our kitchen staff, cooks or helpers smoke. We'll mention it and see if there is a better way to handle it. Thank you, Jake's.
My complaint is that Jake's is 30 minutes away from me. I'll eventually make it out there to watch a game.
Jake's Philly Steaks and Rockets Games Kinda funny, we had a lady and her daughter come in today around 2:00 that live by intercontinental airport and they round tripped it to get two #1's to go. We also have a guy that comes in every few weeks from Katy on Sundays to get him and his wife cheesesteaks to go. I always tell them to make sure their order is correct because we would hate to see them drive 30 miles for the wrong meal. Just come in when theres a good sporting event you want to watch....we added the NBA pass and Hockey and the golf channel, etc. Thank you, Jake's.
Went to Jake's this past Sunday. It was phenomenal. Maybe I had too many drinks because we were getting blown out, but the food tasted fresh and well-flavored. The chicken tenders we're my favorite item. Great service too. Thanks Jake's! I plan to revisit this Saturday.
Jake's Philly Steaks and Rockets Games Thank you, sorry about the score though. We had a blast last night also, packed house, good game, "Firehouse Shot Specials" a flowing, and as always, we strive to keep our food fresh, tasty, consistent, and homemade as much as possible. We appreciate your comment and glad to be of service...Jake's.
