Who says the fewest deaths is the best choice? George Patton was quoted as once saying that the best option in WWII would have been to allow both the Nazis and Soviets to kill each other off. I can't disagree with him.

There is so much stupidity flying around today... Just a few tidbits worth mentioning:

Obama team thought Iran would not tolerate Bashar Assad's use of WMDs

    http://washingtonexaminer.com/obama-team-thought-iran-would-not-tolerate-assads-use-of-wmds/article/2535328

This is some quite shocking naivete on the part of our Ambassador Power. The level of stupidity required to believe this is truly shocking.

White House Advisor Rhodes: Not in Assad's interest to retaliate; "no doubt" Assad regime responsible

    http://cnnpressroom.blogs.cnn.com/2013/09/09/white-house-advisor-rhodes-not-in-assads-interest-to-retaliate-no-doubt-assad-regime-responsible/

Yeah, there's no way they'd retaliate. Of course they won't shoot back. No chance this thing escalates, no chance whatsoever.

White House Admits It’s a Coalition of One

    http://www.nationalreview.com/corner/357890/white-house-admits-its-coalition-one-patrick-brennan

And GWB was a unilateralist? And the man has to lie his a$$ off to boot.

None of this tops the "unbelievably small" comment. I can't remember the last time I saw anything coming from a department head that even got close to such absurdity.

    Some other fun reading:

RAND study: U.S. military options risky in Syria

    http://www.politico.com/story/2013/09/rand-study-us-military-options-risky-in-syria-96426.html

You should all read this, but I know most here won't.

CNN poll: Public against Syria strike resolution

    http://www.cnn.com/2013/09/09/politics/syria-poll-main/index.html?hpt=hp_t1

Nothing at all surprising here. Only surprising thing is that our leadership appears so hell bent on defying the will of the people. Which, given past history with this administration, really isn't surprising, either, I guess.

And if the slap across the face is a tap and the kid tells mom "f^k off", and does it again, then she ends up beating the sh^t out of him?

If your initial warning doesn't hurt, then it will not have the intended effect. An "unbelievably small" slap across the face is unlikely to deter Junior from his bad behavior.

And your scenario where we send in a few cruise missiles and call it a day, and everything is hunky dory is absurd. Everyone pretty much agrees that such a strike will have no effect. If it's an "unbelievably small" strike, then how exactly is that going to deter Assad in the future? If anything it'll probably have the opposite effect.

If, on the other hand, we go the other way and do a full-on air campaign then how does that not tip the balance heavily against Assad, and in turn increase the likelihood that A) Assad will fall, B) the CBW will fall into the hands of the rebels or Hizbollah, and C) we will have to put boots on the ground as a result?

You said before that you're content to let our enemies kill each other from here to eternity. I get that and actually agree with it. What you fail to understand is that a "limited" strike will not have the intended effect, and anything more than that "limited" strike will dash our hopes of being able to watch our enemies duke it out for the next few years.

This is beyond embarrassing. It is beyond Democrat vs. Republican. I am not sure I can remember a more mishandled foreign policy issue in my life time, and I can remember some pretty good bungles by both parties. The administration just needs to find the "exit" on this issue and move on to other things. Let Russia confiscate the chemical weapons and call it a day.

Are you one of MacBeth's alter egos? That would actually explain quite a bit.

This isn't the most mishandled foreign policy issue in my lifetime, the invasion of Iraq is the worst and this it isn't even close, but I agree it is pretty bad.

As I said earlier the Admin. didn't seem like they wanted to deal with this earlier and now are scrambling to appear forceful.

All of that said there may be a possible way out of this with the option to move Syrian weapons to foreign control. As Hillary Clinton though noted this proposal wouldn't have happened without the credible threat of force. If this is a serious proposal that threat shouldn't be taken off of the table.

Yeah I occasionally click the red lines for sh^ts and giggles.

Er, so? That makes me a troll?

Please, you are the KING of trolls on this board. It's ALL you do. You were the *first* person to make my ignore list when I came back because every single post you make is an insulting troll post. You contribute NOTHING worthwhile to this board. I have yet to see you engage in any serious debate at all. You are a walking one-line insult machine. Your parents must be proud.

Take the bet, coward. Man up. Put your honor behind your words. C'mon, let's do it.

treeman, just ignore ScamFisher. He is known to be one of the village idiots here. He usually has nothing whatsoever to add to the discussion. He is very lonely in New York.

Why would I take a bet with somebody who isn't even here?

I have been discussing the issue for the entire thread. Talk to the troll about the disruption.

I've sent Clutch a message asking him if I can send my creds to him. Even if SF doesn't take the bet (which I doubt he will, as he is nothing but a cowardly troll) it matters to me that his words not go unanswered. It's a ridiculous insult.
