It has already been in Galveston seasonally. The only change is that it will be in Galveston all year long now.

Do cruise-goers consider Galveston an interesting enough stop/destination; do locals have any disdain for boat folk, or is it really just a pick-up point?

I would not fly to Florida only to catch a boat.

I went on Royal Caribbean out of Galveston earlier this year on the Mariner of the Seas. The only problem with the Galveston cruises is that there are only two Western Caribbean itineraries offered due to the port's location. Florida as a starting point opens up access to many more parts of the Caribbean and they tend to have newer and nicer ships with more amenities, although the ship Galveston is getting year-round (Navigator) will get some nice renovations and upgrades.

Naa, it was an older ship. Rhapsody of the Sea I think.

The Dwight signing pales compared to this.

The waters off Galveston are sooo shallow that maybe it can get stuck before the inevitable toilet overflow, etc.

That's probably more like it. They're no Carnival or Disney, but Royal Caribbean, particularly with their new larger ships, has done a good job of developing attractions for younger folks.

dont get the hate of cruises is only for the senior crowd

ever since my first one back in '09, I've been to 2 more since, and have another one planned in Jan

I do agree its limited as far as sites, want to check Belize, Key West on a future cruise

They're tourists. It's good for Galveston. And if you look at Galveston on any day during the summer, it's obvious that people do like coming there.
