That area didn't have reception at the very moment he drove past the hills. He had to move up the hill a bit to get service and between the cliffs
Walt is back to being old family man Walter White. The calculating, diabolical monster "Heisenberg" is no more. He was clearly in a moment of desperation at the time and didn't even think about the concept that Hank was bluffing. Not hard to see how he could've fallen for it.
He didn't even realize that Jesse was working with Hank. And he assumed Jesse was too stupid to come up with such a plan.
what an awesome episode. for once it felt like walt was being outsmarted at every turn. i was shaking with nerves for the last half of the episode, or at least starting when jesse texted the barrel pic. these last 3 episodes are going to be in-saaaaane.
Hank and Gomie die. Can't see them surviving when they know where the money is now Jesse survives by taking Walt hostage Uncle Jack now goes after Jesse to recover the cook But Walt is pissed that Uncle Jack disobeyed him and killed Hank, who he tried to save Walt convinces Jesse they have to team up to survive and take down Lydia's clan. Walt comes back to do a cook. The Ricin is for Lydia's tea, because when she's dead, Todd has no one to sell to anymore. Maybe Walt even kills Uncle Jack with gas, since he doesn't like wearing his mask. then again, maybe the Indian Reservations police save everyone. hell, I don't know.
Hell of an episode. I love it when Walt's in control, so for him to lose it completely in this episode (as of now he's in handcuffs) makes me really uncomfortable.
I don't think it's the money so much as the symbol of his success. Walt was just **** on by life for many, many years. Being Heisenberg was his chance to be on top. It was his life's crowning achievement in a twisted kind of way. For a little while, he was THE man. THE KING! And the money represents all the work he did to reach that point. It represents the small part of his life where he actually felt like winner. If he loses the money then none of that matters. Everything he did was pointless. Not only because his family will get nothing, which was the original point, but the lasting reminder of his achievements as Heisenberg will disappear. This ties into the Ozymandias poem pretty well.
When he lost reception, I thought for sure he'd realize Jesse couldn't be in that area and that he wouldn't actually go to the site where he hid the money. He'd catch on and just keep driving.
Hank was foolhardy to think Walt might not have a counter to this move. He got caught with his pants down in his obsession to nail Walt.
I don't expect the show to be realistic, but the Nazis are a cartoonish contrivance that hasn't been earned. It definitely seems as if Walt is coming back with the big gun to rescue whichever of Jesse/Hank/Gomez are not killed by the Nazis.
Walt falling for that plan was just dumb. Hell, for that matter so was Huel (who has been right there with super slick lawyer Saul all this time) falling for Hank's plot so easily. Add that to stuff like Jesse figuring out the ricin cig at the last second and Walt leaving an incriminating book on the ****ter and it really feels like the show is stretching to bring it all together quickly. This show is so entertaining, but they've really made some leaps here at the end that have taken it down a notch for me.
How will Walt's identity be publicly revealed? We know it is guaranteed to happen. I'm assuming Hank survives the shootout and Gomez dies.
Part of me thinks that the cartel would have been the better ultimate enemy, as in coming back to get Walt. Maybe they were afraid it would be depicted as racist? And the Nazis are a safer bet? Not sure. But the Nazis have come about rather quick. That's the thing, though- it's sloppy and messy as real life is. You give anyone a taste of that kind of money, they'd be inclined to do that. And they do symbolize evil, for sure. But if I were writing it, I'd probably have the cartel as the ultimate enemy, because that has been building from day 1, all the way back to Krazy 8 and Tuco. It may have read better if someone came for revenge for Gus, or even if Lydia's gang in the Czech Republic came after Walt due to her tie-ins with Gus.
