I advocated for a Shawn Marion trade last winter (pre-trade deadline) and thought folks were crazy when they said no, that would kill our chances of signing Dwight Howard. I thought that Dwight was a pipe dream; I was wrong, good thing we didn't trade for Marion! Mark Cuban probably does not trade Marion this season. If he's overwhelmed, sure, but I don't see Daryl Morey going all out to get a guy in his mid-thirties and who will be a free agent so soon. I do think Morey would do this: Jeremy Lin to Milwaukee; Caron Butler (expiring contract), a Bucks lottery-protected first round pick, and Donatas Motiejunas to Dallas; Shawn Marion to Houston But I don't think Cuban does it, because he's stubborn and doesn't want to rebuild. I also think that Cuban thinks his team is going to be pretty good next season. I think they'll finish in the #7 spot, which I suppose is pretty good, but I wouldn't call that contending. Maybe Cuban will be more reasonable in February when he realizes his team isn't going anywhere. Cuban's ego has taken a big hit since the championship. He used to think he was smarter than everybody else, and that championship team, which was assembled by a heavy reliance on advanced stats, proved him right. He knows that Daryl Morey is the new Boy Wonder now and it has to piss him off. This makes him a difficult trade partner for Morey, as Cuban can't help but let emotions get in the way. If Morey cannot make a big quantity-for-quality deal (a 2-for-1, or a 3-for-1) that gets him somebody like Marion ot Ersan Ilyasova prior to the day when final 15-man rosters are due, I think he makes the following moves to get down to fifteen guys and calls it a day until mid-January, i.e., a few weeks before the February trade deadline: 1) Trade Motiejunas for a lottery-protected first round pick 2) Trade Greg Smith for a projected high second round pick 3) Waive Reggie Williams and Jordan Henriquez By February, the picks acquired for Motiejunas will be more valuable to potential trade partners (and to Houston!) than either Motiejunas or Smith, most likely.
Cuban had a good run. And I won't count him out. But he spent all that money on 2nd rate players; he'll need to flip them somehow. Otherwise he'll be stuck in the same fuzzy area as the Rockets. Funny, I don't hate Cuban as much as I hate Dallas. Now that we got the better of him I can relax about him. Let him suck it for a few years.

Well spoken, the great thing about Morey is he understands that you crawl before you walk....
btw, Rockets aren't trading Lin...not now or ever...they might not re-sign him after his contract expires, but you can pretty much be guaranteed he will at least play out his current contract as a Rocket.
I don't think they want to trade him. They want him to improve. If he doesn't have a good year,DM may move him if Les wants a better PG.
You're right because the rockets have never traded away a PG when there's another PG that looks to be starting caliber. I'm not saying the rockets will trade Lin though
Here is a topic fot you guys: which teams would view Jeremy Lin as an obvious upgrade over their current starting PG, would want to pay Lin a total of around $20 mil combined over the next two years, and would be interested in trading for him? I have thought about this and determined that there is only one team that meets these criteria: the Milwaukee Bucks.
Perhaps right now before the season has started the Bucks might be the only team, but it's when the season starts that will determine if other teams PGs will work out or not for them. Also, Lin's cap of $8 million a year is very average amount for starting PGs in the league, so I don't know why his salary is a constant issue.
8M is about average for a starting caliber pg however guys like Bev, Brooks and Canaan can give you 70% of what Lin gives at 1/8 the price. This is a big reason why Lin has to improve a lot or he will be replaced, there's no need to pay 8M for a marginal upgrade.
Where did you get 70% from? Especially for Canaan who hasn't played one game yet? You think Bev starting all last year would have gotten us to the playoffs? I don't think so.
Whoever trades for him will be paying $10 mil /yr ($20 mil total). I don't know if there are other teams that will be interested in trading for Lin for that price. A "rebuilding" team likely is not interested in paying $10 mil/yr for an average (at best) starting PG. So I think we're only looking at teams that are trying to actually win.
Milwaukee, Boston, Philly, Orlando, Charlotte, New York, Sacramento, and Utah are all possible landing spots for Jeremy Lin.
No way Boston pays that much for back-up point guard, also New York, Orlando and Sacramento are likely not even consider to take him.
i wonder if we can make a trade for derick williams? he's probably better than any of our current PF's..i think he has no place in Minny.
Boston has Rajon Rondo. Philly is tanking and has zero interest in trading away picks or prospects. Orlando is also rebuilding. Charlotte is still thinking that Kemba Walker might be their guy, and they're rebuilding. New York has nothing to offer. Utah is thrilled with Trey Burke. Sacramento, maybe.
Beverly per 36: 11.5 pts, 5.9 assists, 0.551 TS% Lin per 36: 14.9 pts, 6.8 assts, 0.538 TS% There isn't that much difference between Bev and Lin, and yet Bev's making 1M a year while Lin's making 8M. Bev starting wouldn't have gotten us in the playoffs, but then again Bev didn't have to start we had Toney Douglas last year who actually outplayed Lin on some nights. I'm not trying to bash Lin but he has to raise his game up if he wants to stay on the team, his current level won't cut it, not when Bev, Canaan and Brooks combined make half of what he does.
Stats don't show everything, Lin was coming back to form from injury, he had to adjust his game a lot with the addition of Harden, which took some time. I can't see how those guys would lead a team if for example Harden got hurt, while I can and have seen Lin lead teams to victories. So Toney out played Lin a few time, probably those nights where the stupid coachs sat Lin for no reason. Brooks lost his starting position to a 2nd year player, because he wasn't leading his team well enough. Again, it's not just about stats, it's also about leadership and running the team, which I have seen Lin do with or without the star players on the team.
