    According to Hilary:

Many surveys rank medicare better than private insurance. However old people don't want any reform because they like medicare the way it is.

Democrats are awful at PR when it comes to things like this. If they were better, health care reform would've been far easier and a far better bill would've passed.

Seems awfully un-American not to capitalize the word American's in your thread title. I question your patriotism and thus the validity of this thread.

I believe that the overwhelming majority of Americans have no idea what a "single payer system" is.

Wouldn't medicaid be even more so?

I do think most people know medicaid is a government-run program.

Is Medicare really a single-payer system? If there are deductibles and copays, how is it a single payer?

I can't find "single-payer" anywhere on the Medicare website.

According to Physicians for a National Health Program, the definition for single-payer system is:

According to Medicare.gov, Hospital Insurance - Part A

    For Part B, Medical Insurance:

If there are deductibles and copays, it is no longer a single-payer system, i.e. Medicare is not actually a single-payer system.

Heck, Pol Pot and Goebbels are supposed to be capitalized; patriotism's got nothing to do with it.

Several of recognize it is, as most any other government program; and the ones that don't know mostly aren't using it yet, so what does it matter?

I believe that people who vote understand and that does not mean obama could have pushed for a single payer system and secondly many seniors have both private insutannce and medicare

Its amusing how people try to twist the definition of a single payer system. It reminds me of the Death Panel argument. It is what it is.

I really don't understand the poll. I think it would be more fitting to ask ones opinion if Medicare is a single payer system, not what one thinks of someone elses opinion.

And speaking of opinions, I believe Medicare is one of the big reasons why we have a serious decline in the everyday healthcare environment.

Obamacare is better than nothing for millions, but involves extreme contortions and a complicated scheme to keep the insurance companies making a killing. The sheer complication and difficulties in understanding it has created a system that the enemies of health care for all have exploited.

Medicare is hated by these folks because it works and tens of millions know it so it is hard for conservative ideologues to lie about.

Nonetheless, in a couple of years millions of low info conservative voters who have been lied to by their representatives like the benighted Ted Cruz and preachers will be glad when then can finally go to a doctor and it will be hard for the Cruz types to spin.

Exactly, and Hillary Clinton is such an awful politician. Not one atom in her is genuine or sincere, and I hope, desperately hope, that Democrats don't nominate her. She would be a huge step backwards after Obama.

And single payer is inevitable. The older Americans who oppose it are dying off and being replaced by younger Americans who have a considerably different view of how government should play a role in society.

    Americas' future is socialism. ;)

When there is one entity that pays the bills and negotiates the prices, it is single payer. Medicare is just like every other single payer system in the world except everyone pays for it and only older people can use it.

My idea is simple. Let younger people buy into medicare for the marginal cost of covering them and let insurance companies compete with medicare.

Now that is a pratical idea but wasnt there a lot of opposition to a govt option. a govt option seems to be the next logical step.
