how am i hyping it? I just asked if wearable computing was something people saw as big. The stock has roared, it would be silly to short it here there is momentum of google glass + there are rumors himax is in the iphone 5s + there are rumors its in the new samsung smart watch.

Yes I came to clutchfans bbs to pump up a stock and my commentary in this thread drove it up 25% in 2 weeks haha.

Im having a great 2 days! Im excited but i still think the future lies ahead with google glass and oculus rift. Oculus rift may potentially be bigger than any game system around. My kid brother is 17 and has been telling me about it for a long time, Im 28 so Im not into gaming much just madden or nba 2k but he says oculus rift is gonna be a game changer.....it has a himax chip as well

You wanna short a company with a PEG ratio of .5?

You wanna short a company that just quadrupled its dividend?

You wanna short a company google just bought 6.3% of?

You wanna short a company building potentially the next big tech device in google glass??

You wanna short a company who did $700M+ in revenue last year without glass? Yea their income comes from china and their growing population buying smartphones and tablets but now their LCOS division is booming big time. Production is going from 2M to 25M

I've done my homework, thats why I asked about wearable tech a few weeks ago, the stock went from $5.70 to $7.40 in a heartbeat and I feel the story is just starting. Look what DDD did when 3d printers just got popular, this stuff seems to have a bright future. Shorting would be silly now, today it boomed for a reason, clearly someone was buying and buying big, it traded 28 million shares, basically 4x normal volume.

FWIW Himax isn't a small cap, its market cap is $1.2B so it's a big company and I think the big reason the price went up today was the rumors of himax being in the iphone 5s and 5c next week along with the samsung iwatch so it was up 5-6% early then the short squeeze sent it up to 14% for the day.....short squeezes do that when the shorts panic and have to buyback to close their position.

Fad. Battery life won't allow these products to be enjoyable.

I would imagine they would ban that sort of product, but there is nothing stopping the players from reading a scouting report on an ipad just before they hit.

Tell me....what is the short interest of HIMX?

Also, did you get a chance to read thru that Motley Fool article I posted? And did your opinions change after reading it?

    On Nasdaq.com
Short interest is just over 1% that's nominal...ya read the piece seems inline with what I'd read. Obviously missing earnings now has no bearing on growth in the future

Can't speak to the individual company, however...

We're already in the era of wearable computing. Ipods, IPads, Blackberry's, 3g phones... all wearable computers.

Computers will continue to permeate our lives as the technology and needs allow. Clothing that's wired, contact lenses with HUD's, and computerized implants? Who knows where we'll be in 20, 50 or 100 years.

I have no doubt in 50 or 100 years the idea of microchips will seem as bulky and quaint as vacuum tubes do today.

As for betting on who the winners are going to be, all we need to look at is the last 40 years to see how hard it is to pick winners and losers when it comes to technology.

Lotus, Yahoo, and AOL. Business history is littered with companies that looked like they would become dominant giants that ended up as also rans and nobodies.

It may be possible to predict where the future is going, but good luck picking when it arrives or who's carrying the flag when it gets here.

I only pointed out the short interest to illustrate that it was not a short squeeze.

I hope it works out for you but just make sure you have a plan if the stock drops or if it rises significantly.

    agree fully torocan....

I don't know who is gonna emerge atop wearable computing, Im just putting my money with google. If google says HIMAX is good enough for them to use to build glass then they're good enough for me. If oculus rift wants to use them too, then i listen. And now it seems like apple and samsung want to use them too

This is their investor guide right off their website, shows all the big companies they work with
    Himax Invest Guide

I actually read this article before I bought it a few weeks ago....it said the shares could double, after reading it, I asked my question here

Himax Could Double By Year's End Thanks to Google

The second article is kind of worthless outside of mentioning the google stake. Remember google can always sell or decide not to invest further.

They look like they are a solid company and they have returned a lot of money to shareholders since their IPO, but the company just guided down on revenues big time. Also, the last time they traded at this price was back in 2006. Back then their EPS was actually higher than it currently is. In fiscal year 2007 their EPS actually topped out at 57 cents/share and the stock was lower than it is now.

People are pricing a lot into this company based on the google stake and Taiwanese chip makers aren't usually given a premium to the market.

    it was $8.15 earlier this year....not 2006.

I agree google is getting priced in BUT I read google glass will account for $20-25/unit revenue. So they did $737M last year, if glass sells 10M units that adds basically 33% revenue growth.

They guided down bc they don't wanna miss earnings, they actually gave a large range of where earnings could be. I didn't expect a move like this until the google glass hype came around, this recent run is on iphone 5s and 5c hype combined with samsung smart watch hype.....both of which HIMX is probably in.

Whats funny is friday some people wrote there was bullish $7 sept call option action. Like 7000 contracts at .15 were bought.....and I was like who would buy that we're at $5.95.....then 3 days later boom we're at $7.50....fishy fishy

I was going to buy some of those call options but was hesitant and passed. FARK! I wouldn't short this either with potential Samsung and Apple announcements using this technology.

ya next week the iphone announcement could send himax soaring if they're inside the 5s or 5c....look at the investor presentation i posted, Japan Display shows up twice then read the following link on how japan display is focusing on nothing but the iphone 5s....add two and two together and i think we know what is gonna be found in the new iphone....hence today's big move....the september investor presentation was just released yesterday showing JDI in 2 segments it was previously in one from my understanding.

Iphone 5S Focus of Japan Display

I don't want to be connected 24/7 at all. Sounds like a nightmare. De-compressing and being "off the grid" is preferable to lots of people.

But enough people will want to be connected, more than 1/3. Which is plenty and all that will matter. Then the rest 2/3 will be forced to adapt.

I did read enough of the thread.

But this is an INVESTING thread about MONEY. That just so happens to be about wearable computing.

The TITLE of the thread doesnt indicate that.

The comments I gave was SIMPLY about SOCIETAL/SOCIOLOGICAL commentary. I personally was not interested in affordability of devices and if it will help out people's retirement in being ahead of the curve.

Good subject, but maybe can be in be in the "Stocks & Investing" thread.

Back to what you were talking about with wearable computing...

I think flexible LED will be big and it seems like there are some big materials revolutions coming down the line.

google glass isn't gonna look r****ded, there was a girl modeling it on cnbc last week and she put it on her normal sunglasses, so if that happens, it's gonna be HUGE i think
