Lucky you. Seriously, you were one of the lucky few. I went to Albright (one of the "supposed" better schools of A.I.S.D) and there was a dude that ended up bringing a gun to school and threatening one of the teachers with it, also 8th grade. Of course they brought the drug sniffing dogs (no correlation yet mandatory for some reason) and metal detectors. Livin in the hood and its perks. Gotta love it.
There is so much ignorance in this thread it is truly frustrating the hell out of me. Where do you people live? What fairly tale existence has escorted you from harms way throughout your life? No matter where you are in the Houston Metro Area, you are no more than 5 minutes from an impoverished community. Quit blaming areas of town and look towards parenting and responsible community action.

Exactly, and Dekaney High School (Spring ISD) gets a ton of students from Remington Ranch which is literally one exit away from Greenspoint Mall.
I live two minutes away from Dekaney High School, and five from Spring High School. Currently with my folks. Yes that is true, but people are mainly discussing how this specific area has gone downhill tremendously. It's not like we are speaking of an area that has been a POS for years. Parenting and community action? Ha, that's optimistic.
They have to justify the tens of thousands of dollars they overpaid to live farther away from minorities. How else will realtors make money? Business is booming! Fact is gang violence only effect gang members. Your Lilly white son isn't going to get stabbed when he's playing Pokemon in the English hallway.
we have lost the understanding of community for the most part, instead of talking to your neighbor to resolve or address an issue we call the cops to complain and have them settle the dispute
I graduated from Spring in 92 & I my little sister attends there now. She's been on lockdown all morning and no doubt a little upset. I couldn't care less about race or whatever BS politics is going to spring(see what I did there) up because of this. It would be nice if my sister didn't have one of her schoolmates stabbed to death in the cafeteria this morning.
I grew up in that area and went to Spring ISD from K-12th grade. My parents still live in my childhood house. I've seen things drastically change, especially over the past 5 or so years. While you are absolutely right that gang violence will mostly only affect gang members, it's disheartening to see this happen in an area and school that used to be one of the best in Houston and all of Texas.
Call the cops? Lol. Maybe in urban areas but for the most part folks that live in the burbs don't even know how to start a conversation with a neighbor. I've seen this happen with some people moving back in the loop. I say hello and they look at me like I'm stupid.
I hate that these parents are quick to blame the school. The parents should be looking at themselves as well. Prayers to the victims and their families
This. Back in high school some kid was considered god's little angel by his parents, kid was theatening me with a wrench insulting me. I told him to drop the wrench then I proceeded to beat his ass, kid was muscular but these hands had more experience. Some parents like to act blind or are really blinded by their kids. If my mom knew half the **** I got into. I didn't have a dad to show the right path but even then kids still be bad.
my neighbor always calls the cops on me when i have a party instead of just coming over to talk to me about it, but he's probably scared of me because when he attacked me a few years back i called the paramedics instead of the cops
Violence has been an ongoing problem in the district. Parents have been wanting more security for years but the superintendent is too busy taking all-expense paid trips to China to learn how to teach kids to play chess.
