Rick probably waited to see Cush in the preseason and in camp before making the decision to go ahead and extend him. His lateral quickness looks the same maybe even better than before (which happens quite often these days).

Cushing is a huge part of our defense and that showed when he went out last season. Glad to know we'll have him for another 6 years!

I believe these signings leave them with room to sign a veteran. Anyone with more information? I wouldn't mind seeing the Texans pick up a veteran CB. Potentially Marcus Trufant? I understand he was cut by the Jaguars...

All that matters in that is the guaranteed money. $21m for a top 10 MLB is pretty reasonable I'd say. Knowing Cush though, he's going to earn every single bit of that incentive money. The guy is a machine.

21 guaranteed is pretty solid...I'll take that for sure.

He wont play to the end of the deal and will probably be restructured in 3 years.

ninja is one of the most underrated DEs in the game. When cushing is there, those 2 make the number one stunnas(stunts), according to stats keepers. It sucks that in order to sign megawatt ninja is going to have to take a vacation to shaolin and manning too, along with another contract renegotiation. =(

We should definitely see how crick handles starting this monday.

So happy Cushing was locked. He looked quick already in pre-season, and Smith must have saw it through the practices etc.
Dude is the heart and soul of the defense, with JJ.

I would have liked to have done this at the end of the season. Seems a bit premature coming off a serious injury. I really like Cushing though, hope it works out.

Contrasting this with the contract extension that Sean Lee just signed.

Cush gets more money overall ($56MM vs $51MM) and more money guaranteed ($21MM vs. around $16MM). Not too bad, I'm looking forward to seeing the cap implications of this deal over the first 2-3 years.

I have never heard of lee until this offseason. Seems like cowboys fans want something to hang their hat on this offseason

I agree with that, just think that we got a "deal" based on the comp and by doing this deal before Game 1 (remember, Schaub also signed his extension before Game 1). It'll be interesting to see how they structure it with respect to the cap. I hope Cush retires a Texan. He's been amazing to watch since coming out of USC. This contract was very important to Cush based on recent interviews (link to May interview and link to August interview).

Good news but echo the worry about JJ's looming extention.
