jesse picks up the book 'Dutch' by ed morris, which is about dutch schultz, who at some point makes a call to kill his business partner, "mad dog" Vincent Coll

    from wiki,

"In February 1932, the Schultz gang lured Coll into a trap. While Coll was talking in a drugstore phone booth, gunmen burst into the store and machine-gunned him to death"

I thought it was a book version of that movie starring Al Bundy.

Disagree that Hank is the opposite of Walt other than the fact that Hank represents law enforcement. Hank just wants to win at all costs after the discovery.

He's mediocre at his job despite being promoted in a Dilbert-esque fashion. He has been handling taking Walt down pretty piss poorly by involving Walt, Skyler and Marie without any planning, and he has been led by the nose and outwitted by Walt time and time again.

Just because he's showing glimpse of ruthlessness doesn't mean he's comparable as Hank hasn't demonstrated the monstrous and detailed calculation of Walter White.

Hank aint no Sherlock to Walter's Moriarty.

I'm referring to them having similar personalities. Hank hasn't gone as far as Walt, but he's also had less time to. At this point I'd say Hank is more like Walt pre-Brock poisoning. He is getting outsmarted by Walt, but that could change. Not because Hank is smarter, but because Walt at times gets careless. Walt is smarter than everyone, but it didn't stop Gus from being a step ahead most of the time.

What makes Jesse different from everyone else is that he isn't able to morally justify his actions.

    Never liked Hank
From Season one he has come across as boarderline racist
What shocks me . . is how the SAME DOGGEDNESS and manipulations and going outside of protocol that got him so many kudos going after Gus
    now
Causes people to dislike him when he does basically the same thing going after Walt.

Hank has been an A-hole all series. I thought he got mulligans because he was the law . .. now . . I guess because he wasn't after 'walt'

his best friends on the show are a Mexican American and an African American. What makes you say this?

I liked Hank at the beginning. The Mexican jokes did get old pretty fast, and the way he has treated his wife and partner at times has been pretty bad. He also de-humanizes the users he encounters in his job.

For some reason I love Walt's arrogance most of the time, but hate Hank's. Maybe its because Walt has more of a right in the sense that he truly is a genius.

So after Walt fakes his death, the nazi gang takes up beef with Jesse and they kill him? Which prompts Walt to come back and exact revenge.

You're way too sensitive. You've never joked about race with your friends? But to each his own... I've never liked Jesse. He's just a tool. An emotional little girl

You don't see how Gus manipulated Jesse? It all started with setting up a fake heist. Remember his relationship was originally somebody he didn't want to work with. Then it became someone he wanted dead. Then he decided to use him against Walt.

Part of Hank's job is to be manipulative. It is questionable at best to whether he is being honest to Jesse (more withholding truth than directly lying to him, which is very similar to Walt prior to Brock). He is obviously using him, though I expect a much less naive Jesse to flip the tables and use Hank. Hank was doing his best good cop routine on Jesse.

Hank isn't a good person. He just isn't a bad guy. His wrongs are more justifiable than Walt's.

FWIW, the people Walt has killed or had killed are murderers or pretty bad guys with the exception of Gale and the lawyer. Lydia probably would have had the lawyer killed as well, since she brought him up to Walt, and had previously hit listed the rest.

If I could just add this to TDash's post. Also from wiki:
Too many similarities with this show.

He constantly does it though. Most of the time nobody is really laughing except for Hank.

funny, i know a couple people who get similarly steamed when someone mentions wanting walt to triumph at the end, or at least beat hank. for some people it doesn't seem to sit well that heisenberg could get away with everything. i mean of course there's still a good chance he dies, but i just would find it so badass if he manages to outwit everyone at the end. how many people do really horrible things and amass a ton of wealth and never really end up paying for their crimes? a lot of people. just because someone is evil doesn't mean they will suffer for it. of course tv and movies condition us to believe otherwise.

it's a testament to how amazing the show is when it starts arguments about moral relativism around the water cooler.

I had forgotten the fake heist. good point.

    No it is not.

What is he withholding that Jesse would like to know?

using? They both want Walt to pay for his crimes. You could say Jesse is 'using' Hank as much as Hank is 'using' Jesse.

Just completely incorrect. HE is throwing away his reputation and job just to see Walt come to justice and hasn't thought twice about it.

Who those people were is irrelevant. It's the fact that he killed them when they presented little threats to him (Mike, Mike's guys, Lydia, etc....).
