How much leverage do they have? With high youth unemployment, I honestly can't imagine much unless fast food restaurants have gotten a lot more sophisticated...
Do you know how much a landline costs and whether it's more cost effective than having a cellphone? Do you know what kind of cellphone it is and what plan is taken up?

If the wages for fast food workers come any where close to $15 an hour, expect to see a whole lot more automation in the fast food industries just like more and more automated machines are replacing workers in the factories.
Fast food is about maximizing throughput. If kioskitron shuts down during lunch, you'll need extra staff to take orders and deal with World Star Hip Hop situations.
I don't see the pay being that high*. I worked at a place that had technicians working on small engines and end-user electronics, and the technicians, whose main job was to make repairs, were paid only $15-17/hour. This place did have good benefits though, and for the most part allowed for a somewhat flexible schedule. *But who the hell knows what the pay would be.
It's probably also worth noting that a lot of the franchisees or regional management could have started as front-line clerks early on; and are either biased or just more used having extra live staff handle customer service during high volume scenarios, or would like to have staff that can eventually cross train and handle multiple duties.

Sadly wont ever work here...a class action lawsuit would be filed by teens everywhere...While i do think something like this could help, this is a form of discrimination based on age...
