White could have easily put up 13 pts, 9 rebs, 4 assists for us :(

Right. It's still kind of amazing to me there's a contract still to pay on Royce White. I mean, training camp started, he refused to show up for months, seems like that thing could've been voided.

Not sure which position he would have guarded long enough for that to happen.

he is similar to Charles Barkley

A bit short but strong as an ox and ver explosive

He has a very good feel for teh game with his moves and passing

if he didnt have "issues", he would have been a top 5 pick

This was the only reason I didn't kill the Rockets over their selection of White (of whom I was never really a big fan) over Zeller (who I thought had a much higher floor).

After the first 10-15 picks, there was no other player with nearly as high an upside as Royce White. The risks (very high) were well-known, but the Rockets had ZERO star power on the roster at the time . . . unless you count Kevin Martin, Kyle Lowry and Luis Scola as stars.

The calculation was that it was better to use a mid-first rounder on a player with the ABILITY to become a star--even if there was a substantial likelihood that he'd flame out--than to take a higher floor/lower ceiling player (such as Zeller) who they were more confident could become a solid (but not star-level) member of the rotation.

If THIS Rockets roster (already with two superstars) was in place for the 2012 NBA Draft, I'm pretty sure they would have taken Zeller over White. Totally different calculation involved when you've got stars in place.

Royce White is not 'ver explosive'. He's not explosive at all, by NBA standards. And he possesses nothing close to a young Charles Barkley's combination of power and athleticism.

Yeah, having kids with four different women, that's a hell of a financial decision right there. What a loser.

IIRC the first one who'd ever said "Royce is a top 5 talent" was Morey and he said it during Royce first press conference. His college stats did not back up the statement. Most scouts knew he couldn't shoot, highly TO prone, and never considered him as a top 5 talent.

Talented? Yes. Top 5? A stretch!

Now this "top-five talent" has spread like a wildfire, perhaps it was Morey's strategy to inoculate himself against a high risk bust.

He could also easily put up 2 babies, 1 new baby mom/year, and 2 closures of condom factory!
