On just rent alone? When people say they wish to move back, are we talking about food being cooked/laundry washed and stuff like that?

Mortgage, home insurance and property taxes. That is a good chunk of change there.

    Why is it a "RANT"?

    No need to typecast.

    - If you can live outside the home on your own, do it.
    - If your parents don't mind you staying, then stay there.

    And thats that.

I didnt have a stable upbringing in childhood. I moved "out the house" age 20, but was just bouncing around from relative to relative really. So while it wasnt with my "parents", it was still under family roof. And that continued for a while.

On not living with parents, it really is dependent on the PARENTS THEMSELVES how much they instill the values of independence and self sufficiency. And then how much of it is NECESSITY out of CRISIS ("RUNNING AWAY from home") ESCAPING problems.

So not every single example is the same "cheap consumerist materialistic loser". Some people arent mentally fit for understandable reasons, and some ARE prepared.

(And whats the difference really in living with parents and the "SERIAL ROOMMATER". Roommates are a definite mixed bag of personalities, but you're not technically "on your OWN" its still getting shared subsidy from someone. At least parents are predictable and you're gonna ask them to bail you out of jams anyway )

Right now I'm not living with anyone. I suppose I get an American Independent Spirit award of some sort for that.

It can depend on age and if you have kids

When I've heard that from people (older crowd),

its 90% saving MONEY to have MORE. (To put toward future retirement, kid college funds and all that) Or they're tired of their beat up '98 Ford Taurus on its last legs and would like to get SOME kind of worthwhile replacement but can't fit it in budget.

And the other 10% is maybe cuz they're too far from "home", physically distant from family. So they want go back for a while around loved ones, or want to just live closer to home. Maybe have "grandma" be a babysitter. Its not too much about mom's housekeeping, though I'm sure that can influence things some.

Younger people yeah some probably don't like the culture shock of personal adulthood responsibility and want to get back in mom's home-cooked meals

Even as girl, I must ask this completely ridiculous question and how much it may matter in things. Of your freeloading friends, how many of them have ...ridiculously hot girlfriends.

The "it's the economy" argument is contrived too much from apathy towards those individuals in their late-20's early-30's still living with their parents. I understand all about "the economy".

I think for the vast majority of peoples, their mid-20's to early-30's are a their most entrepreneurial years (most productive). Being stuck at home with mom and dad doesn't help. Maybe Foucalt and Newton could hang with mom and dad and do great things, but that is not the trend - it is not positive correlation.

Nothing wrong living with the folks. I used to smoke weed with my pops. I moved out after this one time I found out he stole some of my stash.

My parents always told me from Day 1 that I couldn't move back in. Barring some sort of major emergency, I move out after I get my degree. Which is a good thing, I just moved into college about 2 weeks ago, and I don't think I could go back to living with my folks.

Did he do that Drugz R Bayud routine by confronting you with your stash and smoking it all in front of your face as guilt punishment?

"This hurts me more than it hurts you boy!"

well, i want to move out (24 yrs old, I'm Asian) ..but my parents won't let me do it because it's too impractical. they want me to save money to buy my own house rather than rent on my own. I do pay all the bills though lmao, the good thing is i don't have to worry about food, laundry, etc...

Most of my buddies still live at home with parents and love to brag about the expensive vacations, cars, bed, clubbing, shoes, clothes etc. Some are in their late twenties and some even pushing their mid thirties! It's funny when me and my wife would see them post on fb, instagram and brag etc. We could still do most things they'd do but nothing trumps having your own home which comes with the freedom and responsibilities with it. I'm the man of my house and my suv is parked in my garage is all I'd have to say. Im Asian/Hawaiian btw so yeah...these are asians im referring to mostly, males and females lol. And yes, all my Hispanic buddies and the 1 token white buddy all have their own places so I'm not trying to be stereotypical here. Lol

We rent and it's fairly high because of the city and neighborhood we're in plus it's near our son's elementary school. I've never felt like we are throwing away our money. We have a great relationship with the landlord and it's nice to not have to worry about all the other things associated with being a homeowner. But when the time comes, I'd be more than happy to become that handyman if I must.
