For 3 years (2008-2011) I was spending $9 a day on tolls or approximately $180 a month. I hated it, but to get from Champions to Sugarland any other way would take far too much time. As it was, I was commuting an hour (in traffic) each way.

When I stopped the commute, I actually was able to help pay for my new vehicle by taking the toll money and putting it towards my car payment.

Gonna repost since my bump was the last post on previous page.

Does anyone know if there are any true differences between EZ Tag and TX Tag?

I live in Houston but I see that TxTag only requires a minimum of $20 to sign up with, and it appears the tag is free. It also lets me sign up on their website and have it mailed plus it supports all toll systems in Texas.

EZ Tag seems to support all the tolls in Texas but from my understanding (their website sucks), you need to sign up with a minimum of $40 and there's a fee for the tag.

    Any Houstonians using TxTag?

My family spends nearly $150/mo because we have several drivers who all use the toll option to save commute time.

I have two friends who had both. There is no difference other than price. They both work. TxTag isn't advertised as much in Houston so most of get it. In Austin, my EZ Tag works, and my friends' TxTag works here.

I prefer EZ Tag simply because every year something goes wrong with charging one of my family's vehicles. I only need to call a local operator or visit the store. With the TxTag, it's based in Austin which would be a bureaucratic pain.

That's a good point, I'm hoping I don't have to deal with any potential issues. I just really don't want to have to pay for the tag & pay $40 as the initial balance. I know it'll eventually get used up but the better deal at sign-up seems like TxTag at this point. Thanks for the insight.

When you factor in gas and car wear, paying the toll is only slightly more than the freeway to save you the huge headache of bumper to bumper traffic.

I agree. People keep hitting their brakes or revving their engines to close the gap so no one can cut into their space and the vehicle ahead of them. In addition, the stress of other people driving aggressively has its own toll (no pun intended).

I often leave work after 8 pm (like right now) because I wish to avoid sitting in traffic whereas I have the office to myself with A/C and high-speed internet. I also get work done. :)

Is River Oaks as nice as it was 10-15 years ago? I am considering opening an office in Houston because of the number of doctors flooding the city and River Oaks or Rice may be where I live if I go through with it... Chicago is a stale city and Ohio is just... Well Ohio.

River Oaks or Memorial is where you want to be. West U would be third option. Make sure you don't buy anything in the flood plain if you choose West U.

and yes, River Oaks is still nice. Need to do private schools though. Memorial you can go public.

But to be fair, it has allowed for for expansion improvements. They're finally expanding the lanes on the Southwest side. That said it sure would be nice for it to be free now, or reducing in price instead of going up. We spend about 80, all my wife.

And the Sugar Land Tollway, man what a ripoff that is.
