Three Black kids walk into a convenience store and...

We do not need stories to reinforce black people are not uncivilized. Maybe you do, but most of us do not. The color of a persons skin does not make them criminals. Im not sure why we need to applaud someone for not robbing a place, regardless of race.

 

It's a recurring trend for certain posters to highlight non-white races in titles of negative stories. Now it's a positive story and that's a problem?

 

You must not have been reading the threads on this bbs lately. Plenty of people here have negative stereotypes of the black race.

 

So why didn't you b**** about the race baiting threads at the opposite end of the spectrum? Double standard much??? Yes quite much...

 

How bout that 3 that just robbed and killed people at the Houston's Denny's? Probably looked like Obama's sons if he had some.

 

How about that random white guy somewhere in America now molesting a prepubescent child? Probably looks like you if you had a twin.

Ratio wise the crime/prison rate is not even comparable.

 

Yes, that's true, and it's a failure of our justice system. It's much harder to go after the more common crimes of white collar white Americans, than to stop and frisk and find a minority to bust. Add to that the money that caucasion white collar criminals can spend on defense, and the fact that whites with the same criminal record and who commit the same crime get far lighter sentences, and we see a real failure of our justice system.

But it still doesn't excuse the negative stereotypes.

So your rhetoric is to bring to light 3 guys who did not rob a store? If this is the best you can come up with, then you have clearly lost the argument. There is a common saying, "Never argue with an idiot. They will bring you down to their level and beat you with experience".

 

A couple of things.

1. It wasn't just that they didn't rob a store. It's that there was a huge opportunity that presented itself to these three, that might have lured some people who didn't have intention of robbing to end up robbing, yet these three didn't take that opportunity. It wasn't a normal opportunity that people encounter everyday. It was one where there would have been very little risk to themselves had they chosen the less honorable route.

2. Why denounce the recognition of people doing something right, especially when we've had people post negative stereotypes of blacks in this very thread, and had a poster claim that black males were undeniably just more violent and all sorts of other horrible crap? So someone posts something that shows a different side and defies the stereotypes that have been rampant around here contrary to your claim that very few people really harbor such stereotypes.

3. Maybe honoring people doing the right thing shouldn't be necessary, but even if there wasn't a call for it, it wasn't the worst thing that's been posted here lately, but it's the only one that you decided to comment on. Two things happened... People have posted horrible racist stereotypes, and one person posted about three black kids who did the right thing despite a huge opportunity to not do it, and decide to lambast the person who posted the positive story.

 

Yes , if 3 guys not robbing a store is such an exception as to be news worthy then it's pretty sad .

 

I feel cheated by the ending, like when I watch an M. Night Shyamalan film.

 

The story said they were aware of the cameras and one actually waved to it , so maybe not so great of an opportunity to commit a crime .... not like they found a bag of cash and returned it to the owner , but hey good job not robbing the store guys

 

I have the opportunity every day to steal thousands of dollars worth of stuff and get away with it. Everyday, people have these same opportunities. These opportunities do happen all the time. It might not be an unmanned register, but they do exist. We don't need a pat on the back for not doing something wrong.

Stating three black guys not robbing a place as an argument against stereotypes is bad form.

 

It would have been even better if it appeared as if they didn't notice the camera.

Any one that reads this board would assume a thread about a person or group of people would assume it is negative based on the recent history of threads.
