Does Morey hate the PF position like he hates long 2's?

Are you nuts? Do you understand the difference between a HOF player and one that just might reach a couple of all star games?

I agree that Daryl Morey would like to trade Donatas Motiejunas and Greg Smith before final rosters are due for draft picks, as neither player figures to crack the rotation this season. I'd like to think Motiejunas fetches a lottery-protected first rounder and that Smith fetches a fairly high (31-40 or so overall) second rounder.

If Morey can't get exactly the sort of PF he wants via trade then I think we'll see about 12 minutes/game of Dwight Howard and Omer Asik playing together, 24 minutes/game of whoever wins the starting PF spot (either Terrence Jones or Omri Casspi), and the remaining 12 minutes/game of Parsons at PF. And I think Houston will be fine.

If Casspi beats out Jones, and Morey can fetch a lottery-protected first round pick for Jones, I think Jones gets traded, too. A first round pick is always more valuable than a non-rotation guy (rookies excluded, since they can be stashed and developed in the developmental league).

You are going to start seeing more and more teams shying away from spending big bucks on classic Zach Randolph-type PFs.

My projected minutes/game breakdown assuming zero current rotation guys get traded:

    James Harden 36 minutes/game
    Chandler Parsons 36 minutes/game
    Dwight Howard 32 minutes/game
    Jeremy Lin 32 minutes/game
    Omer Asik 28 minutes/game
    Patrick Beverly 28 minutes/game
Terrence Jones or Omri Casspi 24 minutes/game
Francisco Garcia and Ronnie Brewer combined 24 minutes/game

I think that's your nine-man rotation. Barring a trade for somebody really good, that is. This team is going to be fantastic.

if tjones and DMo develop into NBA level starters, does that mean Morey loves PF's?

im not one to bash a thread where effort atleast has been put in, but this has to either be a troll or just HUGE typo.

    Think about this:

Last year the Rockets averaged 106 ppg, #2 in the NBA.

If they signed Josh Smith, they wouldn't need to change their system one bit, every starter runs the floor extremely well, team defense is better (beneficial to fast breaks) & so many of their players are young & getting better.

I think they could have averaged 110 ppg because they wouldn't have lost Delfino or Thomas Robinson or Aldemir & neither Jones or D-Mo would need to start so their depth & versatility would be much better than now.

How can you not like a team that would average 110 ppg?

Dwight Howard is a chemistry killer.

Who cares if he's a HOF player? That is questionable too. How do you know he is not another Amare Stoudemire?

    Notice the similarities:

    1. Went from h.s. to nba
    2. Great athlete
    3. Major injury
    4. Signed big contract at age 27

Amare Stoudemire played very well his first season in N.Y. but the last 2 seasons he appears to be washed up. I would always choose the player that does not have an injury history. Here are more posts about Dwight Howard by me:

Incidentally, Josh Smith is 3 DAYS older than Dwight Howard. I would be WAY more excited about the upcoming season if the Rockets signed him instead.

You would be the only one.

I'm no big DH fan but please, Josh Smith is at best a top 10 PF. DH is the number 1 center and the list of centers doesn't get to 10 before they pretty much suck.

In short, he is the most dominant player at a position ripe to be dominated. Heck, it's worth keeping Asik just so there is one less guy with any hope of containing DH.
