Never been here before and only here till I fly out again tomorrow morning. I'm staying in Hawthorne because it's close to the airport, but it seems quite boring around here. What should I do? How should I go (bus/train/taxi/etc)? It's just me and my wife. Also, people keep telling us to be careful when we're out - should I be really really cautious? How dangerous is it out here? Is it ok to just walk around aimlessly? TIA!
Hawthorne? Not much to do around there. Best way to get around is rent a car. Just north of you is the Green Line train, you can transfer to the Blue Line going down to Long Beach, or the Red Line going to Hollywood. If you want to go West to the beach, you'll have to take a taxi or a long bus ride, I recommend the Santa Monica Pier or the old Venice boardwalk. I recommend visiting the Long Beach Aquarium, Hollywood & Highland, and the Universal City Walk.
It's not too dangerous, just be aware of your surroundings, keep your wallet, cell phone and purse close to you. Stay in well lit busy areas, and ignore the numerous people who hit you up for money.
Lol, you're in L.A. for one day? As an Angeleno, I suggest getting lost on a freeway for a couple hours and then hurrying back to your hotel when you realize that this city ain't for tourists. Unless you're staying here for a couple of weeks, there isn't much you can do.
If you g out to the Inland Empire, go to Victoria Gardens in Rancho Cucamunga. It's an outdoor mall, which is different than what most are ued to.
