Perhaps im in the minority, but i've always disliked Walt even in season 1. While I admit I love watching him as "Hiesenberg" I absolutely LOATHE him when he is himself. Disregarding his role in the death of Jane and near death experience of Brock, I would still hate Walt, just for those countless occasions where he is the biggest most selfish ******* on the face of the earth. The worst of these moments usually involve him arguing but usually degrading and blaming Jesse. While Jesse isnt the smartest or most likeable character ever, I'm always on his side versus Walt. Examples that sticks out are, Walt berating Jesse to expand his selling territory. Walt after having quit asserting proprietary ownership over Jesse cooking the blue meth. Walt degrading Jesse's product, then Jesse himself. Walt IMO is basically the biggest dick in all these scenes.
They asked the question on Talking Bad last night, do you think Walt was being genuine when talking to Jesse in the desert? Do you think he really though it was in Jesse's best interest to just get away and start a new life? Or was Jesse correct that Walt only wanted him to disappear so that there would be no chance of Hank convincing him to make a deal? I actually started off thinking that Walt was really trying to act in Jesse's best interest, but it didn't take me long to switch and say nope, he's just trying to manipulate Jesse again. Just like he manipulated Jr. earlier into not going to Hank and Marie's. Thing is, Jesse wasn't going to talk to Hank anyway. He's not a snitch and he hates Hank. He's wasn't too fond of Walt, but he wasn't going to make a deal either. But Walt steps in and convinces him to disappear. And that leads him to Saul and then Huell stealing the weed and Jesse coming to his realization. If Walt had left Jesse alone, Jesse probably would never have figured it out. This happens quite a bit during the series. Walt tries to take care of business but his actions inadvertently do more harm than good.
Walt has never suggested that Jesse start fresh somewhere else until it benefited him. They met a couple of days before when Walt gave Jesse millions of dollars. Walt said nothing about Jesse starting anew. I hate the Jesse won't talk to Hank because he doesn't like Hank position. Why does that matter? If Jesse wants to rat out Walt he can talk to a million different cops or DEA agents. I am sure he will like one.
Hasn't Walt shown over and over during the show that he genuinely cares about Jesse? Yeah, he's also arrogant and controlling and can be a real jerk, but he's also put his neck on the line to protect Jesse multiple times hasn't he?
I hope this happens. As of right now it seems that Walt has no intention to kill Hank. But what happens if Walt Jr turns on his Dad, and runs to Hank for help? Seeing Hank turn into Walt Jr's new father figure could really send Walt over the edge. We've seen this conflict before. Who knows how he'll react now.
Anyone find it odd/funny that the "beginning" of the episode (before title) was of Todd & Co. and that they don't mention them/have a scene during the whole episode?
I think the blood on the guys shoe that was shown at the end was the important part of that scene, it will come into play at some point, I am betting.
I think we are the only ones who believe that. If Walt is all evil, heartless and doesn't care for Jesse, he could've easily killed Jesse in the dessert. What benefit does he have in letting Jesse disappear if he doesn't care for him?
I think Walt Jr. would be understanding. Especially if it is Walt who tell's Jr. about Heisenberg. If he told him that he did it because of the cancer and the new baby and that he isn't doing it anymore, Jr. would probably be ok with it. Of course he could tell him that it was Hank, so as to make sure Jr. doesn't side with Hank.
Jesse threatening saul reminded me of this: <iframe width="420" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/UPHuE5pDlEs" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
They wouldn't have made it a point to show it otherwise. It's a Checkov's gun... Just like the ricin.
I think Hank stops Jesse, and then Jesse may talk to Hank. Hank had the tails pulled off of Jesse because he didn't want to explain himself. After doing that he immediately left the office. Perhaps to find Jesse? And where would he look first, his house and then Saul Goodman's office, perhaps he saw Jesse storm out of there and followed him to Walt's, and stops him. And perhaps it's Hank that Jesse is talking to in the promo when he says "Mr. White is the devil" who else would it be? He's not going back to Saul I'm sure.
Didnt watch talking dead, but I think the correct answer is a little of both. IMO Walt's primary motive in telling Jesse to get a "fresh start" is to remove him as a liability (ie his erratic behavior/Hank/APD) and secondary for Jesses' own well-being. You are right, for all of Walt's faults, he does care for Jesse and I believe he does... but he's also shown repeatedly that irregardless of consequences his actions are 90% self serving.
