Where in god's name are you getting these figures? A good friend of mine worked at Whole Foods for 8 years and just quit about two months ago. She told me they start cashiers at 10 dollars an hour. She left as a supervisor. She was making 16 dollars an hour in that capacity after that many years of working there. She also said that cashiers that are not working as supervisors make no more than about 12 dollars per hour.

That is at Whole Foods. We are talking about Kroger.

If you run a grocery store, please tell me which one so I can put in my application immediately. I'm thinking I could at least qualify as assistant manager and I'm guessing you'd probably pay a salary of about 150 thousand dollars a year for that position.

Sounds about right. I mean -

I agree! If you have half a brain and invest that money wisely. You can easily get some rental properties and live off of the income,
the problem is that most athletes like to live a life of the "Rich and Famous" and end up bankrupt from lack of self financial discipline.

He can also move to a 3rd world country and live off of $5 a day...:(

That Kroger on 11th isn't bad. Lots of nice looking ladies.

I remember when that place was a dump.

With 1.4 million, you can buy a run down house in Palo Alto in an excellent school district...

If you're going into investing, then you can live off of less than even one million...but we were talking about just living off that lump amount. I would say 40k a year is enough to just get by for single person in Houston, so 1.4 mill will last only about 35 years. Smith wouldn't even be 60 by the time the money ran out.

Smith has kids and a GF though, so he's far from being set for life. He should be good for a couple years though.

Has Kroger's gone fancy pants these past couple of years? Went to one on Westheimer for the first time in 5 years and it had dimmed lights, classy music, and fancy display cases and free samples galore.

Damn if krogers pays $15 dollars and hour, Costco probably pays close to $20. Think it's time for a job change, I'm going to Costco now.

From what I've read over the years, minimum wage at Costco is 17 bucks and hour with really good health and retirement benefits. Their average wage for warehouse workers is 22 bucks nationally.

No kidding? I also heard that the people that check your Costco membership and receipt get paid even more than them.

It's only a legit question if you don't think about it for two seconds.

He's made 1 million before taxes and probably 500,000 after so far total, and there is no guarantee he will make one more cent. They would be fools if his mom retired.

Exactly. Sure it's a lot of money and more than most, but it would be downright irresponsible to quit work. Talk to anyone making $500k a year and ask them if them if they felt they could retire after 2-3 years. The answer would not be no, but hell no. This doesn't include their parents retiring either.

it depends on where you are as to what people make per hour at a kroger... around here it's about 9 bucks an hour to start... I would imagine houston would be a little better than that.
