Employees do not get discounts at kroger unless its a five finger discount. I know cause I have worked at krogers.

i can understand wanting to continue working and guess she doesn't want to own her own business but maybe she likes the people and the job she is doing...

That specific Kroger is really nice, and much nicer than the old school HEB up TC Jester.

Probably a lot of expenses being an nba player. Wouldnt doubt it if he lived in his moms living room.

While initially it sounds odd that his mom would be working at a grocery store, once you analyze it further it makes some sense.

Cashiers tend to make decent money usually around 15-20 per hour. So actually that comes out to a salary of about 32-40k per year. It isn't as if she is working at Mcdonalds........also Smith is a fringe player who might be out of the league soon. I think his mom is smart to keep working.

One does not necessarily simply "own their own business".

Oh I have enough money to not work at Kroger's? I'll just own a business. :p

Wow. I was a cashier at a grocery store just a few years ago (~2009) during school and made 9 bucks. I guess wages grow fast.

9 bucks an hour? When was this 20 years ago? Usually cashiers make much more than the people that bag the groceries...in many cases double.

Kinda dicky to ask her that question but I loved her response. People tend to look down on jobs like cashier but I don't know why? It's an honest job. Working hard is still hard work. How many people are willing to work, if they didn't have to? Cashier at that, where people can be assholes. I know I wouldn't.

Next time ask her what kind of car she drives. He had to at least buy her nice wheels.

I was a cashier about 8 years ago and didn't make anything near $15 to $20. But knowing this now, I'm considering a career change.

    Lol

For sure. That may explain why Kroger has about 20 lanes but only 2-3 cashiers.

At grocery stores? That's surprising. What about clothing stores? I would think businesses could easily get away with only paying 10 bucks an hour for that job.

I make 7.65 as a cashier at cheap kroger (still in high school). No cashiers get paid 15-20 dollars

ITT a bunch of young guys who dont understand older people

It is not unusual for folks to want to continue to do something productive with their days. For instance, my father has already retired and has plenty of money to live off of(savings, pension,SSI) but refuses to quit working....he says he would rather die than sit around the house all day with nothing better to do.
Even if I was a multimillionaire, he would still want to work at some job...it just isnt in him not to work.

His mom sounds the same, if she wanted to sponge off her son I would imagine he could afford to support her....but she doesnt want that. Nothing wrong with that at all.
