In the end, you have to ask yourself some essential questions: 1. What are the primary use-cases for the tablet? (e.g., reading (like an e-book), browsing, movie watching, gaming) Try to apply weights to these use-cases. 2. Where would you likely be using the tablet? For instance, will you be lying in bed holding it up like a book to read? Will you be taking this with you every where you go, including outside the house? 3. Do you have any other devices that already compete with some of your use-cases (e.g., smartphone)? I'm sure there are other questions that can be considered. FYI - I have Sony Xperia Tablet Z (10 inch), and it's been great thus far (although the first one I got was a lemon, so I got no-hassle from Sony replacement at the Sony Store).
I bought an iPad 10" for my mom last year..and she doesn't use it all that much. I have one sitting here at work also..I don't carry it around. Hell I don't use it at all. Why would I when I have a dual screen setup? I am thinking about getting a smaller Surface RT tablet if it does come out this fall. I am tired of iOS. I don't need a bigger version of my phone...
I just ordered a refurbished one. Gonna take class notes on it with the s-pen. How often do you use your s-pen?
not as often as I could. the pen works fine, but it feels a little small/light for my taste. I know there's this add on pen where you just drop the S-pen into a regular sized pen housing and from what I hear it makes all the difference. Samsung emphasizes that the tablet is s pen oriented, as that you can make your own little short cuts with user-defined motions and what not. much better than any stylus I've ever used before, that's for sure.
we use our ipad principally for media consumption. movies, netflix, hulu plus, hbo go, etc. also doubles as back of headrest tables for the kids when on car trips. That being the case, I find bigger is better. But when just lounging on the couch watching something on tv a 9 at night, I'm using my phone. I don't have personal experience with the middle size... but in my view it seems a little like overkill.... too close size-wise to the phone.. .not big enough. Granted, I do wish the iphone was bigger. I'm a man, with decent size hands, so would happily buy a larger cell phone. Meaning, I'd rather have something like a 6 inch phone and a 10 inch tablet. But since Apple doesn't do that - and i'm in the Apple ecosystem - my next best option is the phone plus the regular ipad... just my opinion.
Business/Education: Large Recreational Use: Small I have a Surface Pro at the moment, at times it isn't big enough but I use it primarily for business.
Bought my wife one as a gift last weekend. She loves it! She has pretty much abandoned her mini laptop and iphone 4. Rooted it a few days ago and downloading all sorts of neat apps.
I just started looking around at tablets. Still deciding what features I want. It's a bit overwhelming with all the choices out there. I decided to pass on the Kindle. I'm sure there will be another deal down the road.
Mine came in yesterday. Loving the pen and its size too. Ive been using small pencils my whole life so it felt just fine in my grip. The accuracy is great and keeps up with my small handwriting and speed. But really only when I use the smallest tip available. Love how I can have notes open and the browser on the other side. Or polaris office suite if I need to type up an assignment
Check out the Asus MeMo Pad HD 7. It's a recent entrant into the market and is running at $150-$160 or thereabouts. It's specced like a 2012 Nexus 7 with a better price. Poor man's Nexus 7 built by the same maker that does 95% of what the newest version does. Considering the capability and quality that you can get for under $200 nowadays I just laugh at the people rushing to buy iPads. Unless you really want other people to see that apple there's not much reason to get one nowadays, which is probably why Android is dominating the market now. 7" Android is the way to go. - Perfect size for reading. You can read a book for long periods holding it in one hand. Try that with a 10" and it won't last long. - Download Thumbs Keyboard or Swiftkey and you can type on the tab like a phone easily - which is much easier than trying to type QWERTY on a 10" tab - and easily blast off texts/emails/posts. - Androids usually have microSD slots, which allow for vastly greater storage and options - Android not only has access to the Google Play store but also sideloaded apps and the Amazon marketplace - it's a more open environment. - They are clearly more easily portable.
awesome. yeah I rooted mine a couple weeks ago and it's amazing what this damn thing can do. been playing FF7 on it. also been debating on whether to overclock it, with each processor going from 1Ghz to 1.4Ghz. with the dual core that's a 60% increase while still running stable. only thing I'm concerned about is the battery life, if and when I do.
good deal, glad you're enjoying it. yeah originally Honeycomb didn't have the dual window feature, but with the update of Ice Cream Sandwich last fall, there's not much this thing can't do now. I've been debating whether I want to get a dock/keyboard for taking notes next semester. much faster at typing than I am at writing. unfortunately there's not much on the market that has tickled my fancy.
i use the larger ipad to watch movies on long plane rides.....otherwise i find it too heavy and bulky
