Soulja Boy isn't corny. He's just an idiot and doesn't try to be something he's not. Very different.

First time listening to Hopsin... I like his lyrics ( not into all the cussing & stuff though )

    Like this lyric:
    .
Your real N*** talk seems bogus.
A real N*** don’t brag about being real, as long as he knows it.
And his future doesn’t seem hopeless.
A real N*** stays out of jail, handles S*** and he keeps focused.

I'd rather listen to some Thi'sl, Flame, LeCrae, Tedashi, KB or Junior Gong...but that Hopsin song was alright, apart from the cussing.

If you want word play I suggest you read some TS Elliot. The message, imo, is what's more important.

I really like what this guy has to say. Really appreciate the lyrics, reminds me of that white dude with long hair somebody posted here earlier.

Wit is common, but having a meaningful message is not. George Carlin, Bill Hicks, has more to say than that ginger Mexican despite his skills as a comedian.

Some of rakim's verse were sick

Go manufacture a mask show me after
A glass of a master that has to make musical massacre

My intellect wrecks and disconnects your cerebral cortex
    Your cerebellum is next

Hopsin is a notch above "underground," but it always seems like underground rap fans care more about a bunch of adjectives/metaphors/similes strung together that are void of substance. Any of those guys can rhyme, but there is a huge difference when it comes to a message.

I don't really listen to what's on the radio to be lyrically impressed, but a large portion of the underground rappers are lost in the world of trying to be faster than Twista or sound like the early Eminem. Hopsin gained popularity for dissing rappers that have attained more success than he has thus far. That's fine, but the reason his fanbase is minimal is because he isn't original. His flow is similar to a couple dozen rappers and his lyrics are subpar.

If every rapper has Nas' conscience, Tupac's delivery, Rakim's endurance and Dre's work ethic, we'd be in good shape.

Instead, radio is stuck hearing Tity Boi, Wayne, Drake, slut Nicki and DJ Khaled screaming on everyone of his terrible songs. I guess Hopsin is more tolerable than Nicki, but he's far from even being in the conversation of "good" or 'best".

The whole point of rap is lyrics and delivery.

by dre, do you mean dr. dre?
if so, by work ethic do you mean talking about an album for 12 years and still not releasing? i.e. detox

or talking about an album that will never come out? i.e. the new nwa album

Partly true, and I'd argue that the main guys discussed in this thread are lyrically weak. Hopsin is mediocre in comparison to the rappers that have something to say.

I knew someone would take it that way.:)

No, I'm talking about the PRODUCER, Dr. Dre. That work ethic is amazing. The rapper Dr. Dre has never been that special, though I liked the overall concept of The Chronic.

No way, that's an insult to a guy that made a new lane in hiphop.

Hopsin isn't anything to write home about and there's a reason he doesn't have any acclaim. He goes about dissing anybody and everybody for doing the same ish he does. He's a hypocrite who hides behind some Halloween contact lenses
