LOL saying somebody is stubborn or a moron for choosing the drive their themselves is a bit much, don't you think? Maybe folks rather listen to their cool sound system. Or maybe they want to stop at an obscure store they see on the way. Maybe they rather have their own car instead of renting one. There are countless of reason why somebody would rather take their car than a public bus. How does that make one a stubborn moron?
I guess I meant from a cost perspective. For the most part megabus is significantly cheaper than gas.
No, I just don't want to ride on a damn bus. Has nothing to do with students (I just graduated a few years ago), cheapos (I'm not at all rich, far from it actually), or minorities (I'm black). What's hard to understand about not wanting to ride a bus, surely I can't be the only person who isn't excited about the notion of riding a bus.
Even if the fare is as low as $26, you still need to double or more to take your spouse and/or family along. You still travel on their terms, can't stop along the way, need transportation to/from the terminal, need transportation within the city you are going to - again, why is someone stubborn or a moron for choosing to SAVE money by taking their own car?
$26 is if you book it absolutely last minute. Book it ahead of time and you could take a family of 4 for $8. I've seen it myself. As far as traveling on their terms and can't stop along the way, that's the stubbornness aspect I brought up earlier. Transportation to/from terminal is only an issue in Houston, the other cities have decent public transportation options. Need transportation within the city you're going to, this is a non issue in New Orleans and San Antonio, and possibly Austin, and as I mentioned earlier there are numerous services like ZipCar, Car2Go, Hertz 24/7 that you could rent by the hour and still come out on top. And you don't even need a car in San Antonio or New Orleans. So again tell me how I would save money by paying 56.5 cents per mile according to the IRS regardless of going to any of these cities. I'll break down the costs of driving for you. Dallas: 239 miles. 239 * 2 * .565 = $270.07 San Antonio: 197 miles * 2 *.565 = $222.61 New Orleans: 348 miles *2 *.565 = $393.24 Austin: 165 miles *2 *.565 = $186.45
Why did southwest lobby so hard against high speed rail in the 90's if rail wasn't a threat? Also megabus is doing very well in texas, most of the buses I have taken were 100% full.
Anybody that doesn't use public transportation exclusively is obviously stupid, haven't you been paying attention to all of da1's threads?
because government transportation dollars shouldn't be spent on outdated forms of transport for the state.
Dad, can we make a pitstop? I really gotta pee. Oh, son....stop being so stubborn and just hold it in for another 3 hours.
So first it was "$1".... now it's "Up to $26" and no Austin service... and you're chiming in calling people names if they have a reason to prefer driving themselves? We get it. You don't like cars. Have fun on your increasingly more like a greyhound bus trips, on your way to the stress-free utopia of mandatorypublictransportationville.
And then, despite having totally crippled other mass transit industries through lobbying, the airline industry almost went belly-up... multiple times.
