Whenever I think of Michelob I think of the 80s. Saxophone, smokey room, rain, blue back lights, Steve Winwood etc. Never drank the stuff though.
Bump So a couple of buddies and I play poker every Friday night and we usually like to drink while playing. I recently haven't been drinking because I don't like the stuff they have/bring (dos equis). I don't know of much besides the usual stuff like Corona, bud, Miller etc. Anyone have good recommendation on good tasting ales that I can get at my local store for a decent price? Doesn't have to a toprated beer in the world per se. I've looked up stuff and I was interested in the stuff that had malt and caramel.
For the style you might want to try, I like Old Chub by Oskar Blues (4-pack) and Ellie's Brown Ale from Avery (6-pack). Each are tasty and malty, Ellie's has more caramel notes. Both come from high quality breweries and should cost between $9-$12. If you want to try different things, I know Left Hand and Great Divide sell variety packs at most stores in houston now. As for local stuff. Maybe Santo from St Arnold, it's malty but lighter (a bit "watered down" for my taste, but a good starter for someone just getting into beer)
A local beer you might like would Southern Star Buried Hatchet Stout. It's not the best beer in the world but it's pretty decent.
I know they sell both at specs and most whole foods, HEB, and Fresh market. I've gotten them at all those places in houston.
Interesting. I thought Michelson was a cheap beer which I happen to like. Negra modelos always hit the spot right. Bud light is garbage
yeah you can't rank order a subjective decision like taste. You can only offer a collection of people's opinions, which may or may not fit your own opinion. I'm a wine guy, myself (I like beer but am not nearly as knowledgeable), and I always laugh when people draw absolutes about what's good and what's not. It's subjective and subject to personal opinions.
If you need a list, beer advocate and rate beer are much better places to look. But since most of the best beers aren't available more than a few hundred miles from where they're made, a lot of great beers are overlooked by the masses. That list in Yahoo's article is terrible. Almost every beer on that list that I've tried is piss. (in my opinion)
