One of my biggest dreams when I was younger was to work for WWE's creative department and write their shows. That was part of the reason why I pursued a Communications degree with a focus in TV Production as well as a Creative Writing minor. I felt I could usher in another Boom period like the late 90s/Early 2000s.

BUT...after hearing interviews from a lot of former writers (another interesting tidbit is that the late great comedian Patrice O'Neal was a WWE writer for like 2 weeks) over the years and learning more about the ins and out of a typical workday, their ridiculously demanding work schedule and travel, the fact that might as well not even have a family because you're gone so much, the BS politics, coupled with the fact that you're working under the microscope of the old kook Vince McMahon, I was completely turned off. No wonder the WWE writing positions are a revolving door. The turnover rate is otherworldly.

Oddly enough, a friend posted a writer's job opening on Facebook.

The thing about the writers is that they tend to suck and be yes men. The whole culture started to change when they let CM Punk openly blast Vince McMahon and WWE. I heard not all of it was unscripted but they let him basically have an open forum to air out his grievances. I don't know why Vince let him do it...maybe if he bombed or didn't get the reaction that it was supposed to get, it would be easier to let Punk walk?

Anyway, CM Punk's pipebomb back in 2011 started a slow culture change. Vince seems little more open (I say a little because he still can't get past his head that Punk and Bryan should headline WM). Punk had a long reign with the title, Bryan is getting pushed and most importantly you can now saw WWE is wrestling again.

I have always thought that the writing team for the WWE is pathetic but again, from interviews of past writers that I've listened to, it's not the case.

The writing and what comes off as corny or cheesy or just plain idiotic on TV, is because the filter for ideas is Vince McMahon. A damn near 70 year old, out of touch geezer who has a hard on for muscled guys and fart jokes.

You could put the writers of Breaking Bad, Walking Dead all in a room together to come up with ideas for WWE shows and in the end you get the SAME stuff that WWE currently churns out because of Vinny Mac and his ass-kissers either putting the kibosh on it, or bastardizing the writing.

Brilliant ideas, once touched and molded and tampered by McMahon are not so brilliant anymore. They hire writers with Hollywood experience and they are quick to leave when they see how the operations are run and the hoops you have to jump to get your idea considered. It's a creative vacuum. You end up writing just to please Vince, rather than writing the best story you can.

The culture and system needs to change for the writing to improve, that won't happen til Vince dies. Maybe when he does, I might throw my resume at them. But then again, I'd have to move to Connecticut so...

It's slowly changed a little bit...I'm afraid it may get worse when Vince is gone...

Agree with most everything here. There needs to be a sticky for WWE in "Other Sports."

However, and this has been echoed by other posters, why do people think Bryan isn't the game-changer? He has tenacity, does great work in the ring, and most importantly, people can measure up to him physically. People can identify with Daniel Bryan versus someone like Big Show or Cena.

If one works hard in the gym, their musculature can measure up to the Punks or the Bryans of the world. Not that many people, as hard as they work, can measure up to Cena's freak of nature muscles.

Cena is still the gamechanger. Better than Punk on the mic (though Punk's vitriol is stronger) and people pay to see him, regardless if they hate him or love him.

I don't think a WWE fan can ask for a better gamechanger than Bryan right now. Punk could have been in his shoes, but Punk had Heyman throughout his reign. It's refreshing to see this angle of one dude vs. the Corporation again.

I was out of wrestling from 03 till the rock came back to feud with Punk for the title. Still watched bits and pieces but the last couple of months I've caught myself catching a lot more than usual. Love where the Bryan-Corporation angle is going I think it has some potential to be great.

Some new guys who I enjoy watching since I started rewatching

Dolph Ziggler - Just seems like a natural out there in the ring, great at selling (that spear he took last night was awesome). Mic skills a little lacking but I don't fast forward when he is on.
CM Punk - Good wrestling talent and good mic skills.
Daniel Bryan - Reminds me of Y2J, super over with the crowd and a great wrestler.
Shield is solid I think Roman Reigns has a future as a world champion and dean ambrose is good too. The other guy reminds me of the Hardys a bit (maybe its just the long hair).

A few other guys are good but i'm impressed with the talent WWE has right now.

    Agree with almost everything here.

I always watch Ziggler wrestle. I want him to be over and competing for the World Title or even the WWE Title. Sucks to see him to lose but I've never seen someone sell moves like him. The downside to that is, he sells so well that his form is suspect when he takes those bumps...which could lead to more concussions.

Punk is the best on the mic and probably the third best in the ring. (Ziggler's one and Bryan's two)

Bray Wyatt is impressive on the mic and hopefully they don't leave him on the mid-card.

I still have my doubts on the Shield as individuals. Damien Sandow is someone to watch for. We'll see how he does.

I only have one question about WWE wrestling:

Who will break the Undertaker's undefeated streak in WrestleMania?

Does CM Punk even lift? I like Punk but how can you be one of the best wrestlers and not even have any muscle tone?

I actually laughed hard when I saw Triple H call him a "skinny ******", lol.

Because there's more to being a wrestler than looking like you have a chiseled body. It's all about technique and he, Bryan, and Ziggler are some of the best in the world at what they do.

The main reason why he doesn't have great muscle tone is because he doesn't take any supplements and doesn't drink any protein shakes.

He's really dedicated to his straight edge lifestyle so he keeps away even from those. Hence why he isn't as big as HHH.

He tried putting weight on when he first came to WWE when he was placed under ECW.

He doesn't look right..Then he moved to pretty much a strict vegan diet and slimmed down.

I would love this scenario. Cena returns after Rumble and challenges Taker to a match at WM 30. Then, have Cena beat Taker to break the streak. The entire SuperDome boo's the hell out of Cena, in essence ruining everyone's night because the streak is scared and everyone believes the streak should ride into the sunset with Taker's retirement. The following night at the end of RAW, Taker enters the ring to announce his retirement. Cena runs out and attacks Taker - finally granting our wish of a Cena heel turn.
