That is not the only stupid thing on the list Malone and Robinson are also above Hakeem.

    Rondo is above drexler.

just ignore them, i'm actually sad I gave them a view.

What's that? Something really stupid that we all know is wrong? Then by all means, let's give it attention and publicity.

You can make anyone sound like anything if you use the right stats.

There are two major problems with this list (aside from the author's name and the fact that it's on realgm.com):

    1) The first is that he takes the average star power per season playing 1900 minutes. This hurts players that have long careers, but don't play up to their legendary status during their waning years. His reason for this is to be able to fairly account for the ABA/NBA years, and to account for current players that have fewer than 10 years in the league. But this is a terrible solution.

Note - There are only 12 players ahead of Hakeem in total star power. So going with the career total instead of career average bumps him into that elite tier right away where we all know he belongs.

    2) He gives All-defensive team status and Defensive player of the year awards a fraction of what he awards for the more offensive-inclined awards. But he even admits that the defensive category was created because defense makes up half the game and the other awards were not rewarding more defensive-minded players. On top of that, there are 3 All-NBA teams and only 2 All-Defensive teams per season. So even if you award the same number of star points for All-Defense teams as you do All-NBA teams, you're still only awarding about 2/3rds the points for defensive players. You can't have it both ways. Either award the defensive players the same, or stop claiming that what you're doing is making an even playing field for defensive players.

I can appreciate what he's trying to do. His rankings are trying to be purely objective. But there are some major flaws with his system that need to be addressed before he posts crap like this to the public. It doesn't pass the eye-test.

In his defense, he does claim that this shouldn't be used as a final conclusion, that it should be a single measure in determining the great players. But it's clear that he hasn't spent enough time refining his system before writing about it.

glanced at it. bad scoring system. I can see how Dwight would rate higher since Hakeem probably did not get as many "honors" as Dwight.

Hakeem played against some of the best centers of all time. So while Hakeem had SERIOUS competition for All-NBA, Dwight is a shoe-in.

Using his formula, Hakeem has more honors in every category than does Dwight. It's the average years played that kills Hakeem's ranking here.

If you want to post a crappy article, paste what's crappy about it so people don't have to click to satisfy their curiosity.

Yeah. Back then the difference between 1st and 3rd team All NBA at the center position was very very small. Imagine Hakeem, Robinson, and Ewing all leading their teams to 55+ wins and averaging around 24/12/3.

Who would you vote for? Everyone now knows that Hakeem was a cut above those guys (no shame at all for those guys and they would probably admit it now) but your average voter probably was not quite as sure back then.

That sounds like solid math to me. So, it's basically a mathematical certainty that we will win a minimum of two more championships!!

Dumb article. Basically, if Hakeem stopped playing after he hit his prime, he would be top 5.

    This.

Half the posters posting in this thread probably saw the thread title, OP's post of how Dwight was rated higher than Hakeem, and proceeded to post their uninformed opinion.

If the formula didn't take into account Hakeem's years from 1999-2002, he'd be way higher.
