And you are reserving this precious roster spot for who instead of Hedo Turkoglu? BJ Young? Robert Covington? Reggie Williams?

    BJ Young? Absolutely
    Robert Covington? Sure
    Reggie Williams? Absolutely

Give me the young guys over an old and washed up player who hasn't been worth a damn in years. The Rockets have wasted enough roster spots on guys like that already.

The bigger problem, which you've acknowledged, is that adding either of those guys is not going to be enough to win a ring.

Ersan looked like a lost child against Miami in the playoffs. Since I was betting on those games, I was tracking his performance game by game and he just couldn't keep up with that kind of pace. It seemed like he had stamina/endurance problems. Anderson gives you no D and he has always looked like he has stamina/endurance issues as well.

Our weakness last year was defense, not offense. If we got a stretch 4 who is a mediocre defender and rebounder, I don't think that makes us a better team. We need a 4 who can rebound and defend (cough Dwight Howard cough).

I think Howard will spend a little bit of time at PF, I know some people talk about how he can't really shoot, but he's not all that much worse than Rajon Rondo at shooting and I hear there are some people who wanted the Rockets to get him. If you can play PG without being able to shoot, why can't you play PF without being able to shoot?

The rationale is that the dropoff in production from Asik to Robin Lopez is much less significant when the backup C is playing 16 minutes/game rather than 32+ minutes/game. We're not talking about a big impact in the wins column. Would you rather go 58-24 with Asik and no future Blazers first rounder or 57-25 with Lopez and also the future first rounder? This is a question with a very easy answer. Also, don't forget about owing $0 to Lopez in 2014-15 vs. $14.9 mil to a backup C (Asik) in 2014-15. I repeat: BACKUP CENTER. And don't forget that Asik is an unrestricted free agent in just two years; that combined with his massive 2014-15 salary negatively impacts his trade value. A first round pick in the mid-teens in the stacked 2014 draft is a good haul for Asik.

All of the blabbering about playing Dwight Howard is obviously lip service. As soon as Morey works out an Asik trade with terms he likes, Asik's a goner. I will be surprised if Asik plays a single regular season game in a Rockets uniform this season.

Exactly, which is why Howard will start at PF and play 15-17 mins alongside Asik.

What's the point of getting rid of our starting PG for a PF who may or may not make us better at that position? That makes zero sense, especially since PG is a more valuable position than PF. I can almost guarentee that Asik and Howard start together. McHale is the coach of this team, not Morey, and McHale understands the value of big men.

The drop off from Asik to Lopez is a HUGE dropoff. One is a defensive anchor and top 5 defensive center in the league, the other would be one of the worst defensive players on the team. The trade would drastically downgrade the PG and C positions while only marginally upgrading the starting PF spot while downgrading the backup PF spot.

That proposed trade is good only if the intended goal was to make the Blazers a better team while making the Rockets a worse team.

Good post Bobby, and I agree. I think people already forget just how good Asik was last year which amazes me. Without Asik last year, we probably would have been under .500. He was probably the second most valuable player on the Rockets last year, second only to Harden. It's mind boggling to me that people just want to give him up without even seeing how it works out with he and Howard together.

Visiting Houston Rockets star Dwight Howard said Monday that he has no problem playing at the power forward position if his team wants to put him in the starters with the current starting center Omer Asik. "There is no need to adjust. I have been playing basketball for my whole life. I started it up playing a point guard," the NBA star told reporters at a press conference to welcome his third visit to Taiwan. "I think it can make our team tougher. We need [me] being as a power forward some games and Asik being a center. We will have a big lineup, and it will be tough for teams to truly score," the 27-year-old center said. "You have two guys to play great defense in the paint. So I think it is positive, and it is no conflict," he added. Focus Taiwan

Well, we are about to sign Ronnie Brewer so there goes the theory that we will only go after three point shooters. Brewer is a solid defender, but terrible shooter. It's not lookin too good for the original poster of this thread.

My post did not say anything about players who will be picking up splinters at the end of the bench at the SG/SF positions for a partially guaranteed vet minimum salary. Did you actually read post #1 in this thread?

You truly have no real understanding of basketball. You just espouse the same notion running around in your head on an infinite loop. "Howard and Asik will play together lots". You just type the same words over and over without any supporting evidence. Are you seriously that obsessive-compulsive?

None of the non-center players that HOU signed this offseason, which I think are examples on which your theory is based, make any more than the vet minimum and some have partially guaranteed deals too.

I don't believe that training camp tackling dummies Morey brings on board count as anything more than what they are. Basically nothing. The Rockets now have what 19 players signed for training camp. To read anything into the vet minimum signings is to read to much. Get back to me on this subject when the 15 man roster is announced.

Please read Post #1 in this thread again. Maybe I was mistaken, but I only intended to address significant players, as opposed to flotsam that washes up on the shore.

I believe that the strongest statement in that post was "I seriously doubt that we will see any player like LMA at the power forward spot while Morey is the GM." What the heck that has to do with a complete scrub like Brewer I may never know.

And you will only get respect when you post things of value. Do you really want me to run down the list of your posts? Not much there for a person who is averaging 5 posts a day. Do the research, post intelligently, contribute.

Lol. I guess you didn't read my post directly from Dwight Howard's mouth. Yes, feel free to run down my list of posts. Maybe you will gain some knowledge instead of just talking about the common belief (we need a stretch 4 bla bla bla). I will re-post since you clearly missed it.
