I'm primarily into underground punk, ska, and all of their derivatives. I'm also a moderate fan of metal and classic rock. However - I will never understand the appeal of screamo.

To me, it's just angry teenagers, or bands that couldn't write lyrics or find a singer so they took to screaming. It's just noise, and I struggle to find any appeal in it whatsoever. I don't know how it roared to such popularity for a while.

I actually do like the Foo Fighters. They're one of those bands that has 2-3 good songs per album while the rest feel like filler (to me at least).

How do you not 'get' Foo Fighters, U2, and Kiss -- are their lyrics, instruments, and arrangements too avant garde?

dunno everything from them just sounds the same. generic rock songs.

    i'll add pink floyd.

guess i went with more bands i dont like/dont understand why they are popular. than actual 'not get'. Pink floyd very interesting sound/musician ship but i dont like the majority of their stuff.

We were never friends, but now the chances of us becoming friends are close to 0%. Watch pink floyds 'Live at Pompeii' on youtube and see if you feel that same way.

You see, this is the beauty of music. There is a different feel, a different emotion for every genre/band/song out there. We all feel something very different and that's ok.

There are definitely bands I don't like. I might get roasted for this, but I've never been a big Rolling Stones fan. I think the music is good, it just doesn't move me like maybe Zepplin did for that time period. But then my friend thinks Zepplin sucks and they couldn't compare to Black Sabbath.

I appreciate all Genres and bands, but don't have to like them. Being a musician, I know the hard work that goes into making music of anykind.

I go round and round with friends all the time about different bands and genres on what sucks and what doesn't. We'd like to think we are always right when it comes to knowing what is good and what isn't, truth is, we only know what is good for ourselves.

I will say this, open your mind, there is some amazing music out there. You may never know unless you give it a chance.

I like the Replacements, but don't understand why they're so revered.

    Today's country music.

Is it me, or is there a country music award show on like every other week? And it's always the same 5 bands/artists playing. All their songs sound the same - probably because the same Nashville songwriters are writing them all.

Country music has never been as popular as it is now, but I think it's lost all of it's cache. It's basically just pop music now. I call it the Taylor Swift effect.

Give me Willie Nelson and Robert Earl Keen any day over today's tripe.

I hear ya. I'm not a fan of any country after the 80's Outlaw Country stuff, except for Dwight Yoakum whom I think is pretty good. Love Willie, but I think everyone from Texas does - I've seen people with Green mohawks at a Willie Concert.

Here's some great Old Old Western swing for the country fans...

obviously the kid is suffering from the fact that music stopped progressing around the late 90's and techno/house/hip-hop stopped progressing around 2005.

Still can't tell how much of this thread is trolling...
