I think their fit would be pretty awesome. You'd have the best defensive frontcourt in the league, and you are pairing Howard with someone who's very unselfish, can really pass and can shoot well enough. But yep, you have to give something to get something, and I don't see how the Rockets could possibly pull it off without losing Harden.
I like it. Asking for Nogueira is probably an overkill. But Asik-Millsap swap near the deadline makes a lot of sense.
ehh... i dont see millsap as any better than ilyasova or ryan anderson. and while i like all 3 players and would accept all three for asik, it would have to be more for me. whether it be a young asset or future pick. i would rank my preference of the three, ilyasova-1, millsap-2, anderson-3. millsap does make sense and i can definately see it happening, i just want more.
Just curious about how you rank players: do you think Asik is better than a healthy Varejao, and if yes, why?
thats a weird connundrum because it is an oxymoron to say healthy varejao. it really is tough to decide because last year verjao was playing some fantastic ball, but again injuries took him. he may be beter suited as a 6th man of sorts to keep his minutes down to refrain from injuries and be a hype man off the bench. production wise varejao was more valuable because of contributions on both sides of the ball. but i hold more value in asik because his healthiness, room to improve, elite defense and contract value. i think cleveland would take asik straight up for varejao, and that very well may be a sneaky morey-esque move. idk why you ask, but now that you have brought up the name i could really see a varejao-asik swap being beneficial for both teams.
Kind of a ridiculous question considering Varejao's sat out 149 games over the past three seasons and Asik's missed 0.
I asked because I remember you saying that Millsap is much better than Varejao when healthy. Which made me think you were a Millsap fanboy at the time. But your last Millsap post left the opposite impression and made me curious.
I think millsap is a good playet, with better value than varejao. I still don't think millsap us good enough to land asik. I can see Morey landing varejao + something worth more than millsap.
Tbh i don't want any of said players, unless it comes with added incentive. Id rather trade asik/asetts for Aldridge/love/bosh type player instead. I'll settle for say jrue/Ryan for Lin/asik
Just playing off the talk above with Varejao, etc. 2 quick ideas: Trade 1: Cleveland In: Jeff Green, Terrence Jones Houston In: Tristan Thompson, Anderson Varejao Boston In: Omer Asik This gives Cleveland their SF in Green, finally. He thrives in that role (like playoffs) over PF. Boston gets their center. We still have a solid backup that is more likely to stay healthy with controlled minutes behind Dwight, and more importantly, we fill the PF hole with a very good young player. http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=lwloty8 Trade 2: Cleveland In: Nicolas Batum, Terrence Jones Houston In: Tristan Thompson, Anderson Varejao Portland In: Omer Asik, CLE protected 1st In it's most basic explanation. Cleveland gets their SF. Portland gets their C. We get our PF. http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=jwveeyp
Asik is an above average starting center but he could easily be a two year rental because his current contract can't be extended and he will enter open market in 2015. You are probably expecting too much in return.
I could see these being deadline type deals as Cleveland tries to make a real push at the playoffs. Assuming Bynum is healthy and playing well enough (big assumption), they'll be in the market for a SF.
Btw. If Asik is more valuable than Millsap, and Millsap is more valuable than Varejao, then what do you mean when you say that Varejao for Millsap straight up would be morey-esque?
I meant asik for varejao. I can see him trying for varejao. But with added incentives. Not just asik/varejao swap. A pick or something else to be included.
Interesting ideas. I think for Cleveland, this depends on Bynum's health. Right now they have great depth up front. They can afford to play Bynum limited minutes and they can sustain some injuries. If they get rid of that depth, they are going all in with Bynum and Bennett (who's still injured, too). I imagine it would be a tough decision.
Yep, I meant to say Asik and Varejao too. You were talking about an Asik-Varejao straight up trade at one point. But if you meant that there's something involved, fair enough. Btw, a bit off topic -- I think Varejao is pretty valuable. All of his injuries are a bit freakish and unrelated to each other. Going forward, I'd worry about his age (close to 31) and natural decline much more than his past injuries.
