The simple reason that Asik's jump shot goes uncontested is not because the opponent thinks he's going to MISS the shot. It's because the opponent doesn't think he's going to TAKE the shot because we take less long 2-point jumpers than any team in the league and on top of that Asik has exhibited zero interest in shooting the ball out there.

However, he does have decent form and it would be interesting to see if he could develop that shot. ALL THE SAME....if we had Kevin Garnett out there we wouldn't want him taking very many two-point jump shots either. Remember, we were trying to get Scola to shoot the 3-ball before we amnestied him? Remember, we got Pat Patterson to shoot the corner 3-ball before we traded him.

This is team is ALWAYS going to go away from the long-2 ball. Hence, the little handoff by Asik to the guard coming around him when he catches the ball out high.

There are all sorts of ways to design offensive play to go away from the long 2's. This team...as long as Morey is the GM (thankfully) will NEVER shoot the long 2 ball very often. We want 3-balls and we want shots at the rim. While Asik can't shoot the 3....he can pound the offensive glass. And playing at the rim is actually more efficient than even shooting 3-balls. That is where we are going.

I remember holding my breathe and being annoyed when Asik took that clutch banker against the Spurs last year. From what I heard from Chicago fans is that Asik actually does have a short range jumper. I hope he improved on that for this year.

Check out his jumper at 1:00 and 5:40 mark.

One of the exchanges I remember from the season when Asik made that second jumper.
    Clyde: "Oh my goodness. Omeeeeerrrr!"
    Bill: "Apologize Clyde! Apologize!"
Clyde: "No! You don't want to encourage that."
Bill: "Apologize to the big man."

According to them, Asik makes them during practice. Doesn't seem to be part of our arsenal though. The only other one I remember was from the Spurs game.

Repped. Also, Chicago with Noah and Boozer will challenge for a ring this year.

I watched on Youtube recently a reply of the Rockets-Hawks game in Atlanta. In the fourth quarter the Atlanta big men in the game were JSmith and Pachulia. The big men for Houston were PPat and Asik. Guess who was guarding JSmith? Asik (and doing a fine job of it too!)

Yep. It's been a long few months since we last saw the Rockets play so people tend to forget just how good a defender Asik was. One game I like to point to was against Portland on Nov 16 of last season. LMA was just destroying PPat but when we got into the 4th quarter Omer switched to him and completely shut his ass down.

In the OT Omer continued to shut down LMA until about a minute and a half left in OT when he fouls out of the game. LMA hits a free throw and then next time down the court he makes a field goal to seal the game over the outstretched hands of PPat. It was his first field goal since the Rockets switched Omer to him early in the 4th quarter.

If Omer can effectively guard LMA then there are not many power forwards in the league that he can not effectively guard.

Also, with both Omer and D12 on the floor together it gives each of them a little more freedom to go after blocks and gamble a little more knowing the other guy is there to get the boards. I got completely sick last season watching Asik go for and mis a block only to have PPat ignore the rebound and allow the offensive team to get the rebound and a second chance shot.

Why would I watch Bulls video. We have more currant up to date video of him as a Rocket. Plus he has over twice as much time on the court with the Rockets than he did with the Bulls.

Just looked it up, and he's got a career average of 54% from 3 feet out to the 3 pt line.

(Small sample size does not apply here, at all.)
