I know of someone who has received roughly $8500 in just 3 semesters so far...1 year and a half. Crazy! He doesn't even need a quarter of that money.
Do you guys think this is a legit claim or just a lie?

How much do you guys receive if you're in university? If you don't want to share, then no problemo.

Oh, forgot to mention, that amount is before text book purchases.

    $1500 per year.
Unless I get more scholarships that's it.

It's likely financial aid up covering cost of living. Can be from loans or scholarships.

Really messed up my FAFSA this year. Didn't earn half the money I should have. So I only broke even. No need to pay for anything, room + dorm. I do pay for textbooks, however.

Next year, now that I've learned the ropes and will likely be living off-campus, I expect 10k+ refund, approximately.

My parents pay for my school, and I know I sound like a huge douche, but I didn't apply for that kind of stuff. However, I know kids, particularly one with the 40 acres scholarship that get much more than that amount

I owe the university so I don't get a refund check sadly. Curse my parents making "too much" in the standards of the government. Not too bad though since I commute to school, so paying off my loans wouldn't be too bad.

    You need to apply.

You will get awarded loans and grants.

Accept the grants, do not accept the loans.

Hey hey, if he's perfectly willing to go on without federal aid then why should he? There are kids with financial need that might get shafted, these grants don't just come out of nowhere there's a limit to how much can be offered and to whom.

Student loans. Fill out an FAFSA online so your school's office can determine your need and provide an award composed of either Pell Grants, work study, loans or some combination thereof (most likely just loans). Then do a google search for student loans, and click on any links tied to banks that you recognize.

It has to correlate with how much money you or your parents make. I got $3800 per semester at A&M, but that's because I'm not well off at all.

I found the Pell Grants max out at nothing. I was self-financed working at a deli on minimum wage and only got $600 per semester. You basically aren't allowed to work.

via the Army though, I got $800 a month. However, part of that money was mine that I invested for matching grants while in the Army. After graduation, I even forgot that I didn't use all of it and the Vet Admins called me back in one day. Dude said I had $4000 more to spend if I took one class somewhere. So I went HCC and signed up for an Adobe Photoshop class and made $4000.

I've gotten about 5k per semester but it's legit claims, I have never put false information and I've gotten some cause of grades.

My son gets more scholarships than his tuition. You have to pax tax on the extra. Books and room and board can not be counted.
