I was just reading the investor release for HIMAX, a company google bought into for creating it's google glass, and HIMAX is apparently going to be creating the googles for the Xbox One and Playstation 4. I read that wearable computing is seen growing into a $50B industry in the next few years.

So the questions is......Do you think wearable computing is going to be big or bust? Im strongly considering buying HIMX stock now, seems to be up 300% this year, but over all I did some research and alot of people feel the google glass + xbox one goggles + playstation 4 applications of their LCOS technology are going to send this stock soaring.

Just curious what opinions others have of wearable computing, im intrigued

With our addition to instant information I think it's going to be huge. I know I want the Google Glass once it becomes more affordable.

supposedly google glass is only gonna be $300-400 on release, just read it the other day. Im interested in investing in HIMX, it's $6/share and seems to be the big name in the wearable computing industry. I just think this can be the next big thing with google glass and the 2 new gaming systems and their goggles.

fishbulb here were the links i read that got me excited

HIMAX to $15 Based on 2014 Earnings

This Stock Could Double By Years End Thanks to Google

    Is HIMAX the Next Intel

All these pieces got me really excited, because I really believe in wearable technology, and this is a $1 Billion company, it's not some fly by night that is on the verge of bankruptcy, and it seems to have a nice dividend and now that google bought in I really feel google wouldn't invest in something unless they knew the future was big, right?

I think Im gonna buy HIMX tom

OP, wearable computing and voice are the future. That doesn't necessarily mean the stock prospects of Himax are great. I'm sure growth forecasts are already factored into the stock price.

Time will tell, but the latest generation of hardware is upon us. I was talking to a friend about the renewed interest in virtual reality. It's just a matter of letting the software catch up.

The Oculus Rift is by far the most promising VR head mounted display. The first wave were sent to developers earlier this year, with the consumer models to be released early next year. Even NASA is experimenting with it in conjunctions with...

The Virtuix Omni. It's an omnidirectional treadmill being developed for usage with VR head mounted display. I believe you wear some sort of slippery sock, and stand on a lens shaped platform. The consumer version is planned for release around the same time as the Rift.

The Razer Hydra motion/orientation detection controller that's already been released. While something like Wii controllers use infrared & accelerometer, the Hydra creates a weak magnetic field to detect position and orientation. This allows 6 degrees of freedom for the controller in each hand, within 1mm of true position.

The software hasn't caught up yet, but the potential of each device is only limited by imagination. The level of immersion the 3 devices would create when used together has me giddy, and the fact that they could all be purchased for a total of $600-$750 is flat out incredible .

I really believe in google glass being big time after watching a video of a handicapped girl who got to live again. She got to text, take pictures, surf the web....basically all things she got to do before her car wreck.

I think it had alot of applications in things like medicine or in my case, my family owns garages and gas stations, I could definitely see mechanics watching videos on google glass while they work on cars, or at worst pulling up a diagnostic image while they do their job. I see doctors using it, and one big thing I can see down the road is some type of feature where you see something, snap a photo, and find out where you can buy it just from the image.

I honestly think google glass albeit kinda douchy to a lot of people will be uber popular if it's sub $500 which it looks like it will be. I don't think it will hit iphone level of sales bc I imagine most families will have 1 vs multiple ones, but who knows, it very well could be the next iphone and sell hundreds of millions of units

Razer, the ones that released the Hydra controller, is a public company.

The Oculus Rift was created by Palmer Luckey in his garage using ski goggles & smartphone parts. He then raised $2.4 million via Kickstarter, and industry support has been snowballing ever since. John Carmack of id Software was recently hired as the newly established companys' Chief Tech Officer.

Virtuix is also private, and a Houston based company as well. They followed a similar path creating the treadmill as Oculus did developing the Rift. The Omni treadmill was intended for usage with the latter 2 products from the start.

I'm sure that's expected to be a problem for a portion of the population. Like seasickness, stereoscopic displays will always be an issue for some people.

The treadmill was actually the only one of the 3 products developed with the other two in mind. Appealing to the exercise market is just an example of potential uses in markets outside the gaming industry.

I'm somewhat sceptical about how functional it will be. Using the socks & lens to create a low friction platform was an interesting way of addressing fundamental issues with previous omnidirectional treadmills, but I certainly have my doubts on whether or not it will actually feel anything like walking normally.

How is Google glass practical for most people unless you're a stalker or a pervert?

Google Glass has a ton of great applications for normal people, I promise it will be ground breaking upon release, will have stores with long waits to get a pair, and will be very high in demand, i wasn't a believer till recently but the videos I've seen make me want to be part of the revolution.

That's why I want to buy HIMX, they're profitable as is now, the addition of the contract by google could double their revenue within the next 12-18 months and thus the stock price will do the same. Google doesn't just invest in random companies, and google has a knack for buyouts......google just invested in himax 2 weeks ago, that's what got me interested in researching the wearable computing revolution....seems to be an industry that analysts feel will rise to a $50B/year industry in a very short time.

Google Buys 6.3% Stake in HIMAX
