One of the top players as far as statistics go. As an actual player, no defense whatsoever. He's worth a decent prospect or two, but not much more in my opinion.
If the Warriors are trading him, it's because he can't fit their system (i.e can't shoot it deep). I like David's game, I watched him a lot as a Knick. He just wouldn't fit here.
He's under contract for three more years at $14.8MM per. They won't be able to get enough value for him to make a trade worthwhile, IMO.
Been saying this for a while. It became obvious against the Nuggets having Andrew Bogut on the floor dragging one leg made them better than playing Lee. GS has enough marshmallow-soft perimeter players and the last thing they need is more of the same at the PF position. But they are stuck with David Lee because no sane team wants him at that salary. I've never been a fan of his game. If Bogut goes down, Warriors are nothing more than a very good regular season team. Even if he's hobbled, they must have his physicality and rim protection to be legit in the playoffs.
If we weren't competing with GSW, I'd suggest a three team and send Asik there, but obviously we shouldn't be arming the warriors. How about these? I know there not great, but given the nature of some of these FOs it's certainly possible. I personally like the Washington trade the best, and find the Sacramento trade the most interesting but one of the more unlikely ones. As a Rockets fan, I hope none of those go through. http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=knaqdzq (to Charlotte for Biyombo, Gordon, Haywood) http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=my8exrw (to Cavs for Varajao and Thompson) http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=kfrrj7l (to Orlando for Turkoglu, GSW would throw in a 1st rounder or two, with little protection if they have any left) http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=kwrdhvs (the most likely, Okafor (expiring) for David Lee) http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=n6yoa7y (to Toronto, for Fields and Johnson) http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=mwprkbv (to Bucks, for Illyasova and Henson) http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=l8cmma9 (Lee and Barnes To Kings, for Cousins, Hayes, and Salmons)
What about Phoenix? http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=pjjbj65 (Lee for Frye, Beasley, Filler (plumlee) )
Not a bad suggestion at all. Classic salary dump to a team that might want him. Problem is, this trade would immediately make GS worse and Phoenix better, which is the opposite of what both franchises want this year.
As a warrior fan, I do not mind trading David Lee if that move is to keep Klay Thompson and Harrison Barnes for long term.
He looks like he has never seen a weight room. Unless you're one of the top players in your sport, that's somewhere you should be visiting often.
He'd be good here if he could play defense. But I think the perfect destination for him would be with the Celtics or the Wizards.
