Exactly. Hip hop is a competitive sport that has recently been reduced to rappers doing nothing but PR work within the community. The game getting soft is the same reason you have successful artists who are terrible at doing what they do - RAPPING. It's become a money game rather competition. THAT'S why Kendricks verse and the response to it has been so huge for the genre. Where people rap to earn the biggest check now a day, they used to rap to prove they were the illest. Kendricks verse isn't LYRICALLY insane, but it's giving momentum to swinging the pendulum back into the competition side of things. Something hip hop desperately needs at the moment. THAT's why what Kendrick has done is more than anything Drake has done. The old school Drake would have had a response out by the end of the week. The current Drake will give a **** less until it's convenient for him to make something that'll push back some waves and even then it'd be something like another 5 AM In Toronto.
As far as the Lupe response. It's very dope. Just goes over the head in a casual first listen in Lupe fashion.
i remember mickey factz from dollar circulate produced by 9th. he had a little buzz and was up and coming at one point but nothing ever came from it..
Verse was hot, but you youngsters need to chill the hell out. Don't believe the hype. "I don't smoke crack, mf I sell it."
No love for Houston rappers? NY and LA rap for the fame, we rap for the game, these mainstream rappers all sound the same. Down here they'd get chopped and their women get screwed. Down here we change the game like Hey Jude. Our beats are out of their mind, one of a kind, only in the south can fire like this preside. I make my rivals go up in smoke, and blow them all away like a huge toke. Bitc*, I ain't no joke, even if you've never heard of me I ain't just no bloke. Those fools can't see me yet 'cuz I'm the future. Once you're done listening you'll have to run back to the present like Arian Foster. You can't catch me 'cuz my wit is just faster. I put my haters to sleep and keep their success on their dreams so they can be happy forever after. This challenge was a disaster, waking up sleeping giants like Tojo. Now you know though, what's out there, and it's coming to get you. This is just the beginning. Watch my thrown grow to the size of Macchu Picchu. Spoiler wrote this out of boredom. Haters come at me.
The only thing Drake has done for rap is make it ****ing gay. How anyone can actually believe that guy has any talent is beyond.
Agree on Ortiz. I thought the same about Lupe's effort initially, but let it play. I actually ended up liking it a lot.
