    Hey fellas,

My theater company (IBP) is premiering a new play I've written in May to coincide with our tenth anniversary. It's about drinking in bars. It's also about Houston and the last ten years or more. I'm currently trying to track down some old local music which we will then cover and stock the bar's jukebox with. I've got permission to cover everything I want, but most of the guys from these bands no longer have copies of their own music. Looking everywhere I know for copies. If anyone has anything by the following great bands, please let me know. I can meet anyone at their home or a bar (beer on me) to pick up copies and can return them very shortly thereafter. I'm looking for anything (live or studio) by:

    Fleshmop
    Sprawl
    elevator up
    Carolyn Wonderland
Woody's Jukebox (or anything else by Jerm Boor -- especially the song "Euclid")

Also looking for any early Joint Chiefs (pre-Jay, when Matt was singing), "King of the World" by Horseshoe, any Tab Jones and any Keenlies (anything but the Hellhole compilation, which I have). I've got everything else I need. Any help will result in a special thanks listing on the CD which will be released in May.

    Thanks...

Dude...I must be old because I haven't even heard of any of these guys...

When I think of old school, I think of Ice-Cube, Eazy E, NWA...

Doubt you're too old to know these bands. Probably just ran in different circles. These guys were around during NWA's heyday. Late 80s, early 90s. All local though. BTW, for my money, NWA was the greatest rap group ever.

Anybody got any of this Lexington stuff?

I think he means LOCAL HOUSTON bands, not "old skool" national acts.

studogg: Can't fault you that. I'm using at least two de Schmog songs (probably I Would Die For You and Hey Boy), but didn't list them cause I've got all their stuff. I wasn't a huge Billy Goat fan, but there are lots of other bands I could have listed (Sugar Shack, Pain Teens, deadhorse, etc.). We chose to go with bands whose members had appeared in Infernal Bridegroom plays as actors or musicians (hence Sprawl, Fleshmop, de Schmog, Joint Chiefs, elevator up, Carolyn, Greg Wood's various bands, Keenlies, etc.).

I'm having a blast putting this together. Hadn't heard some of this music in years and it is so very good. Just got done listening to No Pain by Keenlies and the entirety of "de Schmog, anyone?" Wish these bands had never broken up.

My old band (Love Twitch) was on the old Sound Virus compilation that featured such cool bands as Joint Chiefs, Frequent Friars, Coma Toast, Dry Nod, 1453 A.D., Bleach Bath, and more...

Man, those were some fun years.....

actually, my friend was a judge for entance at sxsw and i believe he told me that an old school local act just got back together, I want to say it was de schmog but that may be wrong.

Nothing beats Ed though. Timeless classic all the way through

You take the house, I'll take the car
    that's what I'm gonna do

    there's nothin more to do

    nothing we can do

    nothing we can do

Is this play going to be a bit more uplifting than your other works? I've combed through some of them and they are depressing.

I've got a cassette (which I recorded) of a Glass Mistress practice (before they even had a singer:eek:

Jeff, you can ask Gerard about those days;)

SpaceCity: Didn't know you were in Love Twitch. Cool band. I booked you guys at least once. I used to book Catal Huyuk. I lived upstairs. We may have even met. Was the JC's song on Sound Virus "Read My Lips, You Suck?" We actually might use that one. I was over at Jay's yesterday listening to all that old stuff.

studogg: Wasn't de Schmog that got back together, alas. Killian lives in Chicago now and Diane's in college out east. Only old local act who's gotten back together at all recently (to best of my knowledge) is Sad Pygmy. Culturecide did a while back but I think they stopped again. And Poor Dumb Bastards and Rusted Shut never broke up. Maybe he was talking bout one of them. RS was on the SXSW showcase, strangely enough.

Jorge: That all depends on your point of view. There's some down stuff in it, sure. But it's mostly funny I think. There's also some stuff that you anti-protester folks would love. I roast a protester as hard as any other character in the play.

Bob*: Never heard of Glass Mistress. Did they play out? Where?

Yo, My good friends were the Beefmasters, they were on Sound Virus for a bit. I remember a song "so you want to be an android" by Coma Toast? off the SV compilation. That song was cool. I thought BIlly Goat was from Denton?

Anybody have any old Bark Hard or Party Owls? That would be fun to hear again. Did the Party Owls become Sugar Shack?

If yall have not seen this, here is a site about EARLY Texas punk: http://www.collectorscum.com/volume3/texas/ I found the "Badge Means You Suck" mp3 and some Huns a while back...

They only played out a few times back in the early 80's. They were a heavy metal cover band. Lots of Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, stuff like that. The singer left to join the Navy. Alex and Gerard Garcia (brothers) were the guitar players.

I've got some Sprawl. I have The Deflorist on CD, I think I've got The King of Parking on cassette somewhere (I think Mateo or one of our mutual friends has the CD), and I even have the Guise of a Salesman EP on vinyl, but it is a bit warped. I've also occasionally seen some of their songs online. The King of Parking was my favorite release of theirs. If you are interested e-mail me at mccam2@hotmail.com and we'll figure out how to hook up. I can burn you the CD that I have. Let me know. :p

Oh, I also have a cassette version of Carolyn Wonderland & The Imperial Monkeys Truck Stop Favorites Vol. 2 which is outstanding.

Holy crap, thanks for the nostalgia trip Batman. I grew up listening to a bunch of these bands: Skatenigs, Sprawl, Horseshoe, Joint Chiefs, Hightailers, Carolyn Wonderland
    de Schmog, deadhorse, etc....

I wish I still had some of those CD's.

Keep us posted on the play, this sounds right up my alley.

I've got some old Thirteenth Floor Elevators and Archie Bell and the Drells but I guess they would qualify as pre-old school.
