Wow. Makes the questionable strike 3 a bigger call. At least this probably means Darvish won't finish this game.
gotta love rangers fans responses after corp got the homer. "thats probably their only hit and run of the season" creative.
Ranger fans think they're Yankees when they haven't won anything..didn't even their division last year
Feel sort of cheated. I usually can't watch an entire game but the threat of a no no kept me watching.
Astros learning how to say "no" to Jose Altuve At some point, Astros second baseman Jose Altuve will likely learn there are extended benefits to not trying to play 162 games when his ailing body needs rest. Until then, the Astros plan to control Altuve’s yes-to-everything approach as the organization makes an increased effort to protect one of its few long-term assets. “It’s mentally him thinking he’s 100 percent when technically he’s not. … Going to ask him is probably not even an option anymore, because in his mind, he just wants to play every day. Which, from a manager’s standpoint, you appreciate that,” Porter said. “But at the same time, there has to be some kind of balance where you’re being honest about your body and how you’re feeling and it’s evident that he’s not 100 percent.” Altuve wasn’t in the starting lineup Monday as he continues to deal with a strained left quadriceps. He was thrown out twice during the previous two games while over-running and pushing himself into easy outs, and at times appeared to be dragging as a defender. The 2012 All-Star leads the Astros in batting average (.282) and stolen bases (29), is tied for second in games played (107) and is having a solid third season. But the club wants Altuve to be strong in late September, not just the first half of the season. As a result, Porter said the Astros will begin telling their biggest star “no” a little more until Altuve learns how to better pace himself. “It’s affecting him running the bases, it’s affecting him defensively. So we’re going to have to take it out of his hands and protect him from himself,” Porter said. “And he’s going to get some days off and he’s going to DH some until we can either get this thing healthy or just monitor it to the standpoint where he’s able to make it through the rest of the season and not miss any significant amount of time.”
Can someone please help me figure out what in the heck Porter is doing with the rotation? Why has Jared Cosart not pitched since August 7th?
And that is a decision Porter does not make alone (if he even gets a say). Largely done to limit the total innings pitched by Cosart.
Outside of Lyles's two starts, the Astros starting pitching in August has been nails. 7 starts were "quality" starts. Note that Keuchel gave up all of those runs trying to pitch a complete game. <table border="1" bordercolor="#FFCC00" style="background-color:#00CCCC" width="100%" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="3"> <tr><td>Date</td><td>Pitcher</td><td>IP</td><td>H</td><td>R</td><td>ER</td><td>BB</td><td>K </td></tr> <tr><td>8-1</td><td>Lyles</td><td>5.2</td><td>9</td><td>5</td><td>3</td><td>0</td><td>5</td></tr> <tr><td>8-2</td><td>Cosart</td><td>7.0</td><td>5</td><td>1</td><td>1</td><td>1</td><td>4</td></tr> <tr><td>8-3</td><td>Bedard</td><td>6.0</td><td>6</td><td>3</td><td>3</td><td>2</td><td>6</td></tr> <tr><td>8-4</td><td>Peacock</td><td>7.0</td><td>4</td><td>3</td><td>3</td><td>2</td><td>10</td></tr> <tr><td>8-5</td><td>Oberholtzer</td><td>7.0</td><td>4</td><td>0</td><td>0</td><td>2</td><td>2</td></tr> <tr><td>8-6</td><td>Lyles</td><td>4.2</td><td>9</td><td>8</td><td>8</td><td>3</td><td>6</td></tr> <tr><td>8-7</td><td>Cosart</td><td>5.0</td><td>7</td><td>2</td><td>2</td><td>5</td><td>3</td></tr> <tr><td>8-9</td><td>Bedard</td><td>6.2</td><td>7</td><td>3</td><td>3</td><td>2</td><td>5</td></tr> <tr><td>8-10</td><td>Peacock</td><td>6.0</td><td>3</td><td>1</td><td>1</td><td>4</td><td>5</td></tr> <tr><td>8-11</td><td>Keuchel</td><td>8.2</td><td>8</td><td>6</td><td>5</td><td>1</td><td>8</td></tr> <tr><td>8-12</td><td>Oberholtzer</td><td>6.2</td><td>7</td><td>2</td><td>2</td><td>2</td><td>6</td></tr> </table>
