I'm as liberal as anybody when it comes to social issues. But are you serious???? Nothing at all.

If anything let the athletes from all countries protest in the way they feel is appropriate.

Maybe a raised fist with a rainbow glove or something.

Create dozens of Hollywood movies with Russia as the villain.

Beyond President Awkward claiming last Friday that their Olympic team would be worse off if they didn't have gay and lesbian athletes, not at all. We have whole continents of allies that are more violently suppressive of LGBTs on and off the books, we don't hassle them and they're far less important an ally than Russia.

Seth Macfarlane should make a movie about a gay Teddy Bear in Russia. The Teddy Bear could be all into gay p*rn and hit on guys. Then the KGB catches him, throws him in prison. Marky Mark then breaks him out of prison but Teddy doesn't want to leave because of all the gay friend inmates he met. Then Marky Mark tells him about San Francisco. So Marky Mark and Teddy rent an RV and...

By continuing to promote the opposite, and leaving the door open for their pro-LBGT human capital.

Okay, better idea. Team America 2! Magenta Force Six led by Elton John, Nathan Lane, and Neil Patrick Harris break into Russia to kidnap Putin.

Attempting anything would probably do more harm , they already use the US as a rallying cry against homosexuality ,would just give them more propaganda to use .

I have utterly no opinion on homosexuality as a whole, but when it comes to Russia, or really most of the country outside the Western world, there's one passage I've always liked which describes Western thought.

This entire freakout over Russia's law to me really is a reminder that as much as the West likes to pretend otherwise, it still has the air of the White Man's burden even 50 years after the colonial empires ended. "Oh, what shall we Westerners teach the Russians and their backwards laws? Never mind that 85% of the Russian populace support the law, we know what's best for them with timeless truths of democracy and peace."

Nothing. Lot of countries are a lot worse, and we're not the LBGT police. Condemn it, but that's it.

I think it would be strange to take actions against Russia but not against Saudi Arabia etc.

I think it should be condemned. Maybe donate to human rights groups that plan on making an issue of it. But the US shouldn't do anything officially.

I don't disagree with anything you just said...but it seems like a stretch to call Russia an ally at this point.

Doesn't Texas still have sodomy laws on the books? We have no right to talk.

We are responding, even in this thread. Homosexuality has been a taboo subject for 2000 years. But every time it is brought out into the open and discussed it becomes less taboo. In the US, with the discussion of marriage equality we have moved forward more in the last 5 years than the previous 250. I feel deeply sorry that some people can't openly love who they love, but slow change is how the world works, and the course is set. It will happen.

As far as US Olympic policy for this year, you respectfully keep pressing for clarification of expected actions, emphasize the human spirit of the games, and defend (rescue) individuals that may express their own self-worth; because there will be some.

    This.

Haven't we learned to be very careful about involving/pushing our beliefs on other countries. It isn't our place or job to get involved. What I find funny is that many Republicans will say we should stay out and many Democrats will say we should get involved... simply because this involved the subject matter at hand.. Change the subject to abortion and the responses would flip.

This comment betrays an obliviousness to the sovereignty, security and prosperity of half of Europe and Central Asia, and our own peace of mind regarding the risk of global nuclear conflict.
