I have narrowed it down to these two phones.

Which one should I get? Please take the poll and give reasons for your choice.

    Thanks!

Neither - wait for the Moto X. Seriously.

I have an S4 now, and I am much more impressed by the Moto X features than the S4 features. The S4 works fine, but there's too much bloatware on it for my liking. I think Motorola would add less stuff.

I like my S4 but would have waited for the Moto X if I had the choice.

If you're not on ATT, then get the S4 since Moto X is unavailable to you.

Both look very good, but I'm waiting until the end of September (Rockets training camp) to make a choice... waiting to see if something better comes out. The camera shots are important to me. I admit though I'm partial to a Samsung or HTC (I have an EVO)... little leery of trying a different brand.

I like the idea behind some of the features of the Moto X but the Moto X wont sell on its specs. It would have been top of the line a couple of years ago but the S4 and HTC One are way ahead of it in terms of the actual hardware.

If you want a phone designed by google then go for the Moto X but you could also just get the google version of the S4 and skip all of the bloat. And if I'm not mistaken the HTC One is also on Google Play. Both of those solve your bloatware problem.

I do think the new LG G2 might at least be something worth considering but I'm not sure when it actually comes out.

Personally I have an S4 and I've been happy with it. I think in general its the better phone with the exception of the camera. The HTC One technically has the weaker camera but it is far far better at taking pictures with lower levels of light. Really cool part of the HTC One since I find myself taking pictures in the evening.

If the camera isn't a total dealbreaker than I'd go S4. But they're neck and neck in my mind. Go to a store and try both it and make a call on your gut. You really can't go wrong.

If shots are important to you wouldn't Lumia 1020 be your choice?

Here is a gallery of pics taken with the camera. Pretty impressive.

Please elaborate. I am with Verizon. How do I go about doing this?

The two tings that are scaring me from S4 right now are the bloatware (lag) and complaints from some folks that screen cracks easily *yikes*?

What I like about S4 is the replaceable battery and memory card. I dont have to worry about my battery running out and I will just slap the 64GB sdhc on my phone along with the 32GB it comes with and I can move all my music library in there. Since I have unlimited Data grandfathered, I can stream as much as I want as well and this solves all my music on the go problem.

From all accounts, HTC One is supposed to be more durable with its better build quality. Conversely, I cannot replace the battery or the memory card. HTC One has fantastic speakers but honestly I cant ever imagine using those speakers. If I am doing something in public, I will be using my earphones. If I am watching at home I will be enjoying my *real* speakers. So the speakers seem like a gimmick to me. I also do not care for its low light pic taking capability because I usually carry my Olympus OMD around with me.

When is the MotoX coming out for Verizon?

I'd either get the Moto X or wait for the S5.

Dont let the specs distract what's important. The S4 will have periods of lag and slowdown. The Moto X, even though it doesnt have the horsepower, will actually perform on par or better than the S4. And if you want battery life, the Moto X can go 24 hours. If you use it heavily, you can easily get 14-16 hours out of it.

The only knock on the Moto X is the camera, as it wont perform as good as the HTC One or the S4. But as far as performance and battery life, it's right up there with those phones.

But, to go back on topic...if it's between the S4 or HTC One, I choose S4 purely for the battery life.

I totally forgot about CDMA carriers. I believe Google initially announced they would make CDMA versions but I dont believe they've actually released them for sale.

Sucks for Verizon and Sprint users. Although personally I bought the TMobile version of the S4 and dont have too many complaints about bloatware.

If I were to get an android phone it would be:
Moto X (seems better built/more optimized software wise)
    S4 google edition
    HTC google edition

    Windows Phone:
Any of the Lumia (920-928-925) or 1020 on ATT if you use your camera a lot.

I think the posters through 9:11pm are pretty much non fanboy posters.

I agree with everything geeimsobored said, but rezdawg echoed my sentiments that the Moto X has enough power for today's phone functionality.

Since you're with Verizon, OP, I think the S4 is a perfectly fine phone for your use.

Very impressive. Thanks, ZBoy. The camera is important since I'd like to be able to take some good shots, but I'm on Sprint and unfortunately that phone isn't available. Though I'd definitely consider it if I could, I'm also pretty comfortable with Android.

I've had the Galaxy S2, Galaxy S3, and recently used my wife's Windows Phone for 2 months.

Currently I have the HTC One.

The sound is fantastic, and the camera takes much better pictures than the Galaxy in indoor situations, which is where I often take pictures, and great outdoor pictures. Less megapixels is the downside, but unless you're taking very wide, large pictures, it really doesn't matter much. But yeah, the camera of the HTC was actually a big selling point for me.

The OS is a little different than on the Galaxy, but I actually like it quite a bit. On the Galaxy, I never actually used TouchWiz cause I'd always install the GoLauncher. But on the HTC I'm actually rolling with the stock launcher and I like it.

Honestly they're probably pretty close phones, but I'm very happy with the HTC One I have.

Bottom line go to a store and test them all out. None of those phones have a slam dunk case to be made.

The differences are close enough to where personal preference makes all the difference. Because android interfaces can vary across phones, make sure you are comfortable with the version you're buying.

A lot of people who comment on Android are overly technical and are far better at customizing their OS than the average user. The average user is going to go with what is on the phone so make sure you like it. I work in software for a living but I really dont care enough to root my phone and go crazy with customizing my OS.

If you do want to wait, the Moto X and LG G2 are both interesting options. I just feel like the Moto X hype feels like iPhone hype. A lot of it just seems like hype solely based on the company associated with the device rather than the device itself. The Moto X will be a good phone but other than the fact that it comes with an android package directly from google (with some unique features), I dont see what it all the hype is about.

    Can you elaborate on this?

Which Moto X features do you think you are missing out on as a S4 user?

I have an EVO one and it is good enough.

With the metal case it gets pretty hot every now and again though.

I don't think its worth it to wait for the next phone, because then why not just wait for the phone after that.

Being able to customize the appearance of your phone, contextual awareness (one example: the phone knows when you remove it from your pocket), shaking to activate the camera and "always on" Google Now.

Check out this early review of the Moto X. The guy did a more thorough review just recently, but this one is good enough to show it's uniqueness. Also check out the commercial.

One thing to consider: Android 5.0 (Key Lime Pie) is thought to be coming out later this year and it's rumored some of Moto X features will be built in, particularly the prominence of Google Now. In other words, most of what sets the Moto X apart might be on the other 2013 Android phones sometime next year.

I went to get a new phone about a month ago. When I got up there, I had it narrowed down to these two same phones.

I ended up going with the HTC One. Overall, I liked the way it looked A LOT better than the Galaxy S4. I liked that a 32 GB HTC One was the same price as a 16 GB Galaxy. And it was a huge deal to me that the speakers on the HTC One are the best phone speakers out there.

And one of the cool features that I didn't really care about until I got home was the ability to set the HTC One as my remote for my entire entertainment system. My TV, my Home Theater system, and my Direct TV... this phone works for everything. And it's all in one. Where it took three separate remotes to work everything before I got it. I'm not really sure if the Galaxy has that same feature or not, but I love it on the HTC One.

I don't regret my decision at all.

Isn't this a windows phone? I have a Lumia with Windows 8 and I hate it. Almost every app is a complete downgrade from any apple or android app. You can't watch embedded videos on Clutchfans too....very disappointing.
