Agreed, " I still miss you baby and I don't want to missa thaang!" Blech Also agree with: The Doors KISS Rolling Stones Pink Floyd And I'm sure ill get killed for this but Lynrd Skynrd and Allman Brothers as well. It's not bad music just not all that great.
I think Aerosmith is only penalized because they were actually successful later on. This is true for Metallica as well. These bands had their prime and then continued to make records that the masses enjoyed. No one has to qualify their love for the Rolling Stones, for example, by saying they only like their old stuff, even though their newer stuff wasn't any good.
I think the difference is that the Rolling Stones didn't achieve a more widespread audience based on their newer stuff.
Not directed at you, necessarily. There was a pretty distinct change in sound between that and Achtung (not counting Rattle and Hum), so I can understand that. But after War? C'mon.
I agree that I'm sick of Journey due to over-play. Absolutely one of the most overplayed songs ever. I really don't know why some bands "catch on" in a way that others don't. Boston is by far my favorite out of that group. Great song-writers with songs that will always remind me of being a kid. As far as the production... I'm a big fan of clean production. I don't think it necessarily think feeling and production are mutually exclusive. But thanks for the response... always refreshing to hear opinions to remind me that music fans aren't all soulless fanboys.
Come on man, if this is bleh I don't know what isn't. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/OXrwFBG7-7s" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Don't know why it matters to you when or why someone would quit liking a particular band, never really gave it much thought myself but most of the unforgettable fire was pretty forgettable .. Joshua tree is a good album but with or without you and haven't found what I'm looking for were so overplayed that I just got to a point I couldn't stand to hear U2 at all .
i never get sick of any journey song. Steve Perry made those songs so freakin good that you can hear them over and over and still like them. the same with chicago and you're the inspiration, and take it on the run by REO Speedwagon. I don't get tired of these songs. conversely, for some reason I HATE hotel California, Stairway to heaven and pretty much anything by the eagles I hate for some reason.
See this is the thing. I'm a millennial so the Aerosmith that I was introduced to was the 90s Michael Bay soft rock. I guess it's different for you boomers. Couple that with how they were always winning awards over bands like Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins, etc and getting more radio play over far superior artists like Radiohead.
Sorry this is not chick rock as you call it.. this is blues based rock the way it was done in the UK <iframe width="420" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/Dzmz76vfgfs" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Hard to compare the two groups music-wise since there are two different types of music..new wave and post-punk. Since you like New Order, try to listen to Joy Division "Closer". If you listen closely, that second (and last) album has traces of new wave. If you want to stick to one song, try "Shadowplay" All in all, I love both groups.
Sorry but this is how millennials remember this precious boomer band. The very definition of chick rock. <iframe width="420" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/NMNgbISmF4I" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Try to look past the whiny British guy's voice and listen to the accompanying Smith's music. Johnny Marr wrote the music and the fans all say that combined with the lyrics, it was kick-ass. Example: "I Started Something I Couldn't Finish"
That goes for several bands in the 70s- Heart, Cheap Trick, Aerosmith, etc. They kicked a** in the 70s, then they were forced to work with outside songwriters due to low sales in the early 80s. A lot of those songs like Crazy, The Flame, and These Dreams were co-written by Linda Perry and other schlock writers, thus their lesser quality. These are NOT chick rock, they are kick-a** rock: <iframe width="420" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/jxKm5PjFMHQ" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> <iframe width="420" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/wYfYG4qsv9Q" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> <iframe width="420" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/UFR3lZU16js" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Nothing wrong with going back to listen to earlier stuff from a band. I guarantee you a lot of people who got burned out on 80s Van Halen, Journey, Styx, Bruce Springsteen, etc. would change their tune if they heard some of their earlier 70s output. Seriously, if you want great riffs and great songs, you can't go wrong with Aerosmith's Rocks or Toys In the Attic.
I just came across a song I don't get, and thought of this thread. "I Whip My Hair Back And Forth". Enough said.
