hmm, well Stephen Jackson is 500 years old and he brings almost nothing to the table, and the roster is already full.....
That's why there are trades. Id take Stephen Jackson over Reggie Williams, Aaron Brooks, Greg Smith, and those others players we signed from the SL. Jackson is an underrated defender on the perimeter and if there is anything we are lacking on the perimeter, that would be it.
Anything he would add to the defense, he'd take away from the offense. I just don't see any reason to add him to the team.
Does it make any difference to anyone that the guy is from the Houston area? At first I was like those of you who thought, "where's he gonna fit?", then I looked him up and found out he's a local kid done made good. Not saying it should make a difference but it made me pause. I wonder if it would change anything playing for a team I'm pretty certain he grew up rooting for during it's championship years. Also, it seems the discussion is about goons or no goons. I'm pro goons but only max 3 goons. Any more than that and you are playing hockey.
For the people who say no, your crazy! This guy is a solid nba player with good D and can shoot the three. Depending on price, he would be a great pickup with his versatility at the 2 or 3. He could solidify this bench with the loss of Delfino. A bench of Beverly, Garcia, Jack, and Asik gives you a bench with solid D and can score a little bit. And in my opinion the bench could be in a starting five on say a team like the Bobcats or Kings.
Miamis tough guys really.. Chalmers, has ken, Chris Anderson and while he was on the team dexter Pittman I wouldn't call him tough but he did done physical damage to players.
This is what Stephen Jackson did the last time he played in a playoff game: <iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/Lm6hepN6L84" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> His team may have lost, but he was the only one who showed up to play on the road in an elimination game in a hostile environment outside of Duncan and Parker. I bet Pop wishes he had Captain Jack for the Finals when Ginobili, Green, and Neal went into full choke mode. I would take him over most of the guys on the roster.
Having guts and being tough are not the same as being crazy and acting tough. Jax is closer to the latter.
So every time some aging F whose name we all recognize is available a chunk of Rockets fans will want Daryl Morey to sign him? It is crucial to stick with high character guys with very professional attitudes when you decide to build around a prima donna like Dwight Howard. Stephen Jackson is a malcontent and his type will be avoided like the plague by Rockets management. Jackson is such a malcontent that I think his NBA career is over. There is a reason why he remains unsigned.
They went into full choke mode because of the Heat defense. Jackson wouldn't have made a difference unless by pure fluke.
Can Capt. Jack still play D? Because he can still shoot the holy hell out of a 3 ball. Not sure I'd like to see him and Camby on the floor at the same time though. I do not see either of them going 100% on fast breaks, not at their age.
Signing Delonte West and Stephen Jackson are needed counters to the Miami Heat and San Antonio Spurs.
The NBA is not the NFL or NHL. The NBA does not need goon enforcers. Not when a discreet elbow works just as well. But my absolutely favorite goon act was when Ainge in bounded after a made basket a full court pass right into the face of a Rockets player in the Phoenix playoff series. I was jumping up and down swearing right after it happened, but thinking back on it I cannot stop laughing. Who was that Rocket player?
