We should try this. Our banks deserve this every bit as much as his I'm sure.

Russia isn't known for rule of law. I'm guessing their judges are more in the pay of moneyed and powerful interests than US ones.

This "brilliant man" is going to wind up in jail for this. He may have outsmarted the bank, but there is no way the courts will actually rule in his favor. They aren't ruling based on what the contract said, they'll make their decision based on the group that is pulling the strings -- and that isn't the "brilliant man".

This reminds me of that little old lady who tried to sue the NFL for blacking out the Oilers' games... I think... she didn't win, but... BOY would that have escalated quickly!

Can't they just write it off? I thought big companies write off everything.

Eh, he's going to jail. Unless he's smart and settles. I could see him winning if he rewrote the terms to very reasonable ones. Putting outlandish terms on it will get him busted.

I dont think it's fair if he goes to jail. Consumers are always punished for not reading the fine print at the bottom of a contract...big companies should be held to the same standards.

If a company were to put $60k fines into the fine print and $100k cancellation penalties, like this guy did, they'd be punished too.

I agree, rezdawg, but to think this is going to play out in his favor in the long run is a little naive, I would think.

Why would they get punished? If I signed a document that stated I would pay 100k in cancellation penalties, then I would be held accountable.

I agree that it probably wont play out in his favor, but that's why I say that it's not fair.
