I posted this in another thread, but I'll post it here, if the Mods want to lock it, that's cool with me. It is just the constant hate, mudslinging and name calling between Lin fans and non Lin fans, it has gotten to the point where some threads are unreadable! Anyway, here is the post: Anyway, let me know if you agree with what was said, and feel free to discuss Jeremy Lin's strengths & weaknesses in the comments section...but keep it civil y'all! I am so excited about this upcoming season! I can't wait! Seriously I feel like a teenager again, I've got butterflies in my stomach! Spoiler
So let me get this straight...you think Lin is going to put up prime Steve Nash mvp numbers? Ok. It's claims like these that give the haters ammunition. I'm impartial. I like Lin, but if he doesn't improve this year I wouldn't mind seeing a change especially when taking his salary into consideration. Whatever is best for the TEAM. I want him to succeed because that makes the TEAM better and I'll be happy for him. He seems like a good guy. On the other hand, if he goes all Moochie Norris and Matt Maloney on us, I won't be sad to see him go. We have high expectations for our players here. This is a fan base that has turned on much better players than Jeremy Lin when their warts started showing. Steve Franchise and T-Mac anyone?
Most exciting player in the nba to most people since his breakout. Of course there is a counter trend.
I can't wait for this season but yeah, the Lin garbage has made my visits to this site decrease heavily.
he just needs to hit his post all star averages, 45% from the field, 37% from three. I am bullish on him being able to do this because he's not rehabbing from a knee injury this summer.
Only 13 players averaged 11 or more assists in the history of NBA. None of them played off the ball like Lin does. 7 assists would be awesome
Maybe the assists numbers predictions are a little high, and a wish of mine (or maybe the OxyContin & endone kicked in)...but I see no reason why Lin couldn't get 3-4 more assists per game and therefore average 9 or 10 ast. 11 or 12 assists though is an achievable number if he cuts down on the turnovers and he is allowed to run the offence. http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/l/linje01.html#projection::none Basketball reference .com projects Lin to average 15.7ppg this season. If he was to have hit .444% of his 3 pointers that would've given him an extra 1ppg, & if he was hitting at that percentage there is no reason why he wouldn't have taken an extra couple of 3 point shots per game... This season Lin will have a great deal more wide open looks, & if the reports of his shooting progress are true, then I can conceivably see him hitting an average of around 2-2.5 upto even 3 x 3 pointers a game, up from his average of 1.1 last year. Just an extra 3 points a game would get him to that 16.5ppg that I predict. But I agree, if he does go Moochie or Matty on us...then we should do what's best for the franchise and trade him. At the moment though, Lin is the best point guard that we have on our team. He is working hard on improving his game, and has the potential, like we saw in NY, to be a game changer, leader and clutch scorer. Consistency is the key.
16&7 on good efficiency would probably be enough to push him into the all star game. Harden averaged 16 pts as a 3rd option, which Lin will be (well 3rd-4th). I'll be very happy if Lin can pull it off. (big IF though)
I have said it before, and I will reinforce it now that we have DH12: JLin will average 15-18 pts and 7-8 assists this year. BOOK IT! I just wonder when he does this, how the LOFHs, the LOHs and ABJs will respond on the board. I do hope the LOFs do control themselves though and don't go balistic because JLin does well. This is a ROCKETS team and we should all be routing for the team as a whole and be friends!
To be fair OP did say "Potential" in describing lin's projections for next season. If mike conley can become a good NBA PG Jeremy has all the potential in the world to match a jump in production like conley. The reason I think lin gets so much hate is because posters get annoyed that his fans defend him no matter what and in their eyes have unrealistic expectations for him. Well i think it's a two way street. I can't tell you how many times i have seen posters make claims that make me want to question their intelligence. Calling terrence jones the next dwight howard, claiming that marcus morris is our next franchise player, jordan hill the next chris bosh, jermey lamb the next T-Mac, heck i remember claims that David freaking andersen was gonna be a respectable NBA player. If we can make claims like that i don't see any reason why fans of a player can't support him.(even when sometimes he play does not merit their unconditional support)
Is it even a given that Lin will be starting point guard on opening night? is it even a given that Lin will be a Houston Rocket on opening night?
this is the part where i troll those lin trolls and in return get anonymous rep points claiming I am an LOFer. (repeat for the next 364 days) -tread lightly
http://bkref.com/tiny/vl1NE There is just no way in hell Lin is joining that list. Maybe if he had his own team where he had complete control of the ball, and that's still a very long shot. No way is that happening as the 3rd/4th option on The Rockets. I really think 13-14 points and 7.5-9.0 assists with 1.5-2.0 steals is going to be his range this year. He could hit the high end of those averages if he gets more minutes this year, but I just don't know if that's going to happen with the PG depth we have. Still even if he gives us the low end of those estimates that's a good season provided he keeps that 3 point percentage up.
