It looks like there are a lot of S Jackson fans here. I too was a fan 5+ years ago. Not now. Just not feeling what's left of S Jax.
I tell you what, if you're telling me the difference between the Rocket's winning a championship or not is SJ's "Goonish" behavior and not his basketball skills (iron ically I would like him on this team for his defense and shooting)then the JailBlazers should have multiple championships. This isn't the 80's or 90's the NBA as a whole isn't as physical. Thoughness isn't measured by thuggish or goonish acts. Beverly, Asik, Howard, Smith, Parsons and you're saying we're soft? Please, the you need bad guys to win crap is played out, you need good players and talent.
So talking is something that you believe makes someone a tough player? Who cares if people understand Asik. he plays tough, and if you can't see that i cannot help you. There is a difference between playing tough (like Asik) and being crazy (like Jackson). I want players who play tough, but I do not want people who are crazy.
I guess you and me have WAY different interpretations.. but i counter with cole/chalmers vs beverly (beverly is more of a pest) Haslem/Pittman vs Camby and asik (Camby and Asik are way scarier on the court) Anderson is more high energy these days than an enforcer who intimidates the only thing we agree upon is our displeasure towards Mr.Wade.
It's not that simple. The Jailblazers had enforcers but they had limited basketball IQ and most importantly, no superstars. Rockets have superstars. Now, we just need a good collection of shooters, and goons to support them.
when you say goons, do u just mean distractions for a young team? or do you mean having as many bad locker room guys for the same young team as possible? just wondering
Being an enforcer/goon, doesn't mean you're a bad locker room guy or a team distraction. Vernon Maxwell was a goon and he helped us win our first title. Bill Laimbeer was a goon, but just like Vernon he was the most popular guy in the locker room AND off the court. Akeem was a goon AND star player. Michael Jordan was the ultimate Goon/Superstar combo.
Wait so you use this as an example of the type of players you want on your team. A player that make a terrible flagrant foul (which imho should have cost him a suspension of minimal 5 games) when his team is up 40 points with 20 seconds left to play. That is stupid. Like I said difference between playing tough and being crazy (this play is an example of being crazy).
Well, Greg Popovich thinks that he is. Who am I to disagree? I don't know if Jackson is the right fit for this team. He's old. Not sure if he can still play at all. But to me those are more important questions than whether or not he will be a locker room "distraction". He's been in the league for 15 years now...he's a journeyman but he's also played for some great coaches so he's clearly NOT a locker room distraction.
My apologies. I thought Chef_Monteur posted that list as an example of the type of players he thinks we need. I didn't see you posted it.
lol i wish i thought of that.. however your birdman statement as i have said earlier, i don't view him as rough, but instead high energy
He looked terrible last season. Really bad. 27% from the 3pt line and 37% overall. I rather let Garcia, Casspi and Williams get his minutes.
