This whole debate is ridiculous. Mad Max is a Rockets legend and a tough nosed defender who deserves our utmost respect as a fan of this team. There isn't anybody who replicates his game in today's NBA. And I certain'y respect OP's status as a 99er, but that doesn't mean I'll buy into the garbage analysis he's posted in this thread.

It's true Lin isn't a star. It's true his fans have unrealistic expectations and think he's better than he is. It's true that a lot of his fans don't understand or respect the history we've been through as long time Rockets fans. It's true that all of these antics can lead us to severe annoyance and to take it out on the failures of Lin himself so we can bring those obnoxious fans down a notch.

But it's also true that Linis our starting point guard to stay. It's true he's only 24 years old, quick as hell with the ability to get to the rim at will. It's true he's a hard working Harvard grad (as much as it pains me to praise that as their rival). It's true he wants to win and says all the right things so his annoying fans won't negatively affect chemistry.

I love that we have Lin as our PG. and I think it's time veterans of this board stop taking out the anger we feel for his fans upon the player. I think that when someone posts a thoughtful thread, the first responses from veteran posters shouldn't be to give mock statements of what Lin fans might say. And I think we should start focusing on the player that is Lin rather than the BS that surrounds him.

Oh, and by the way, that player is a high potential combo guard who gives effort on defense and has a high IQ and good work ethic.

This thread is purposeless. Comparing players from different generations is the work of fools. Never an answer and always a debate. Carry on!

you are angry not because of me, you are angry that i'm pointing out truth.

This thread: We need a hybrid 1/2 (Mad Max) instead of a conventional PG

People who don't like this subject do not know who Mad Max is.

Your futile attempt to call me a "lakers fan" because I made an analogy for the Lakers with James Worthy showed you lack any knowledge or respect of the NBA.

You dislike the truth, you know I'm a Rockets fan, you calling me a Lakers fan will never bother me cause it's not true.

The people on this board who are bothered don't know who Mad Max is so they don't understand the topic, they automatically think it's an anti Lin thread

So people who don't know who Mad Max is are people who don't want to know who Mad Max is.

To me, not wanting to know what the OP is communicating is an indicator of a fake fan.

The OP's opinion is that he wants a player like a former Rockets player. That's all he's communicating.

People on this thread who get it, mentioned OJ Mayo, Crawford, Courtney Lee... etc

You mention nothing, cause you probably know nothing or you don't want to know anything about the Rockets

So it bothers you that I mention to a fellow brother we joined at the same time... this is great, I hope it bothers you even more

because I like to show love and respect to my brothers

    no it's not.

How about this thread topic before Howard joined: We need a defensive presence like Olajuwon at Center..

Howard is similar to Olajuwon as a defensive center

How about: We need a slasher like Clyde Drexler
James Harden is like a slasher

The disconnect is that people who don't know who person is on the topic.
So it's easy for them to say:

comparing other generation players is pointless
this is an anti somebody thread
this thread is for eliteness users

they are all excuses for the uneducated.
it's pretty easy to educate people now about players on the past.

we have this thing called the internet. these people use something called "excuses"

This thread is about a player similar to Mad Max.

I know who Mad Max is, I think pretty much millions of Rockets fans know who that guy is.

That means MILLIONS OF ROCKETS FANS ARE BETTER THAN YOU

Patrick Beverley is that PG the OP speaks of. He is our "Mad Max". He is already hated by an entire city.

If Lin were Asian, many people would be boasting how athletic he is.

Mad Max prided himself on defense and didn't give a f of what people say.
Bev didn't give a damn about Westbrook . Much respect to bev.

And right now, imo, this team needs sort of a bad ass. Someone to take the pressure off of the stars sometimes.

Whether the mod's premise is right or wrong, Lin fans are being a little too defensive imo. No need to resort to insults guys.

I think what ticked ppl off is the op's stance that Lin is somehow too small to play the combo-guard "position" when he is only an inch shorter (and quite a bit heavier) than Vernon Maxwell. Or that Lin's 3 point shot is lacking in comparison to Max. And the general notion of completely writing him off and giving Beverley and Canaan (already!) props for being championship-quality pieces.

Now before I get flamed for mentioning multiple players in the same paragraph, I just want to say I am aware of Vernon Maxwell and his contributions and do agree that the team can use a tenacious bad-ass in the lineup. I do think that tenacious bad-ass can be Beverley on the perimeter and that Lin can fill in quite nicely as a combo-guard (albeit overpriced!). We should probably also look for some swoll PF/C off the bench as an enforcer to punish the hack-a-Howards.

I don't think the guard position is our weak spot at all. Harden-Lin-Bev, with Brooks as an offensive sparkplug, is pretty damn good. Everyone there can handle the point and they all have different strengths/roles to play. Lin's contract just happens to be a bit hefty. Worst case scenario is he resigns after next year at a reduced price or walks. Best case scenario is he becomes the next Sam Cassell and we have the best guard rotation in the league. All our guys are young and the only one who is even possibly at his peak is Harden. And I only say Harden because he is already playing at an extremely high level. The potential is there.

    Your post:

"Blah, blah, blah, mention Hakeem & Clyde to get interest, blah, blah, blah, Mad Max was one of my favourite players, blah, blah, blah...

    Lin sucks."

5 star thread, would read again.

    Great post.

I think the stakes are extremely high now we got Howard.
The same situation will happen again, if the starting pg is not playing well, coach will not hesitate to yank him and play the backup .

The x factor is Canaan. If the rookie shows toughness and better shooting, then watch out.

I wouldn't want him as our primary ball handler but they are easily good enough to play next to Harden
