Fixed. I think if I had to choose 5 things to take with me on an deserted island, satellite radio would be one of them.
While there are bands that I used to like that I can't stand today and visa-versa, the bands I have never liked 1 song and still don't like any of their music today is: Grateful Dead Bruce Springsteen Bachman Turner Overdrive The Doobie Brothers
Radiohead and the Beatles are the two greatest musical acts of the 20th Century. Depth, influence, creativity, lyrics, melody, skill... uncomparable.
You don't get Stevie Ray Vaughn? There's a lot of bands in this thread I expected to see. This is one music act I couldn't fathom being in here.
Absolutely, and I'll tell you why. The Joshua Tree has some moments that are average to very good, but not great. One Tree Hill, Red Hill Mining Town, and In God's Country, to me, are not great - very good, but not great. There's not one song on Achtung Baby that isn't either exciting or emotional. Bono has stated that the lyrics that mean the most to him are on that album, and I agree with him. Musically, yes, it gets into electronics, but that's not really at the heart of the music. I knew it from the first day I heard it- and go look at the Amazon reviews. There are a lot of people that have high praise for The Joshua Tree, of course. But go read the comments for Achtung- you'll see more fanaticism about that CD than any other from U2.

The Beatles - Overrated. Don't get me wrong they do have some good songs, but I don't really get all the hype. Rage Against the Machine The Doors
I can't believe all the "dislike" Beatles and Bruce Springsteen. There are plenty of defenses of the Beatles so I'll leave that to other people. But I've got to defend Bruce. First off, live Bruce is way better than studio Bruce (for the most part). Except for the first 2 albums Greetings..., The Wild..., 1982's Nebraska and to an extent the Born to Run (the third) his albums are way too slick. This is the Jon Landau influence who has been shaping Bruce since 1975. He made Bruce more commercially appealing while losing some of his artistry. Here is an interesting article on that does a better job than I could ever do of ripping Landau's influence on Bruce: (http://www.slate.com/articles/arts/music_box/2005/05/faux_americana.html) Take for instance "Racing in the Street" an okay song from Darkness on the Edge of Town. On the album it sounds like a bland song with good lyrics but has no "life" to it. Here is the same song from September 19, 1978. And it is amazing: <iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/MsuZPv7bcxk" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> The live version adds something you'll hear Bruce fans say about him: Passion. And that in many ways is what Bruce's greatest attribute. Sadly with Landau producing Bruce's albums that passion gets sucked out. I think most people who don't like Bruce think of him only in Born in the USA era. Which while it has good songs on there, the production is way to slick and dated. Like the title track for instance. The song should sound angry, but instead it comes off sounding like an anthem (which is why Reagan tried to use it). I think this is Landau's influence again to make Bruce more commercial. Anyway, unless you don't like passionate, from the heart music that rocks, you'll should really give Bruce another shot, and thanks to youtube there is plenty of good live material to listen to.
I've never liked the Dave Matthews Band. I actually don't think their music is bad I just can't get into Dave Matthew's voice. The same goes with the Smiths. Can't stand Morrisey's voice. In the same Morrisey vein in the mid 00's there was a whole horrible trend of overwrought sensitive douchebag bands like The Fray, Train and etc.. For some reason stuff like that just makes me angry. Maybe I am just showing my age but I don't get into most of the Indie music. Don't really understand the appeal of Feist, My Morning Jacket and etc.. I also don't get the whole Autotune thing why people actually want that stuff. There is a lot of stuff I can understand why they are popular but just never liked them. Justin Timberlake (really any boy band or product of such) Lady Gaga Coldplay Nickelback Creed Almost every product of American Idol.
I agree with most posters about The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Bruce Springsteen, etc. A few of the "newer" bands I never really got: Kings of Leon Nickelback Foo Fighters, always very meh to me Pretty much every pop artist after the mid-90's
Never understood the Beatles. I tried listening casually a few times but I just don't hear the talent. I know, I know, it must mean I'm musically challenged or something but how that band ever became popular (much less iconic) is beyond me.
I am not anti-Beatles but I am also not a big fan. I understand why their music is popular and think they were great musicians but I've just never really gotten into them.
It's real simple- they have 3 great songwriters in the same band. Most groups are extremely fortunate to have one good songwriter, much less a great one. Now, you've got 3 great songwriters, who not only can come up with catchy melodies but also interesting lyrics, and you wonder why? Plus, they consistently set trends that were followed by others. Who else was using a sitar back in 1965? Or a song in which basically the only instruments are staccato violins (Eleanor Rigby)? Not to mention Sgt. Pepper was groundbreaking in numerous ways- first album to include printed lyrics- orchestration that was light years ahead of any rock band at the time- and their production was always superior- whereas bands like The Who, The Stones, the Kinks sound was more middle-of-the-road, even the early Beatles recordings sound pristine. Abbey Road, with its connected suite of songs, The White Album- just too many reasons to mention. I can't think of any other band that has 3 great songwriters- maybe Fleetwood Mac, but that's it. The Beatles are like having James (McCartney), Wade (Lennon) and Bosh (Harrison) on your team- in their prime. But, like RJ said above, none of this means they have to be your favorite. Even on Sgt. Pepper, there are songs that, to me, are more for kids (Mr. Kite, Good Morning) or are just more like throwaways.
the beatles were just trying to copy Pet Sounds with all that crazy experimentation. I just don't get the beatles.
I'll post the one that nobody else will, but for me its true. I don't really get the overwhelming love for Metallica.
