We need a hybrid 1/2 (Mad Max) instead of a conventional PG

there were people even arguing Jeremy could be a star or allstar without having the role player syndrome (Odom syndrome) mentality- scrub mentality

having the skills, size and work ethic to become more of what they are now. Lin is deferring too much, being too passive, and rarely embrace his inner Linsanity at this point
And he disappears and injures himself in the postseason too much

Wow what a textbook case of "anybody but Jeremy." Really? Size, defense, and you say Canaan but not Lin. How many games did you see last year. Really? I'm curious. And please don't make stuff up. I'm just curious

I don't get the critique? Is it a case of anybody but Jeremy? How dies he not fit our stars? Lets start with Dwight. Dwight needs a point guard with vision who can toss him alleys all game long and most especially can run the pnr. Then lets look at Harden. As we saw last year, too much Harden nearly always led to a stagnant offense. He needs a point guard that can create to take some burden off of him to create everything, which I guess you guys are expecting, lol. And as mentioned already, dude was hitting at a 38%-40% clip from 3 the entire second half of the season. I know you guys don't watch a lot of games, but come on. Of course, this is just on paper of course. If Lin proves to be a weak link we should most definitely get rid of him as our time is now. At this point in time, our only sensible course of action is to watch and judge after this season (unless someone is egregiously bad before the trading deadline) and SUPPORT our boys, 1 through 12.

Since it seems not many (if any) names have been tossed out there of guys currently playing that people felt would be better alternatives for this team then Lin I'll add one to the thread; OJ Mayo. I use Mayo because he was signed for a very similar to Lin this offseason by Milwaukee. He's a combo guard who plays good defense and it a good three point shooter. Definitely a guy capable being the third or 4th option on a team like this. I will add that much like Lin I don't like his contract and would prefer to use that money on a 4 but for the sake of actual discussion I figured I'd make a post that I felt applied.

You keep using old players as your example, OP. How about you mention someone who actually is in the league?

Don't even bother. I'm not one to buy into this Lin back and forth crap, but to not even suggest a current alternative is weak, and smacks of Lin bashing with the way he ended listing all of Lin's "flaws".

The Rockets don't NEED anything beyond Harden and Howard. They can win without a Maxwell just like they won their 2nd championship after Maxwell quit the team.

And quite frankly, Maxwell was not a 1/2 hybrid. He was a SG and just a SG. And he'd be better served guarding wing players today with his ridiculous combination of strength/athleticism rather than guarding super-quick PGs. And ironically enough, he was mediocre 3 pt shooter whose percentages would make Lin look like Nash.

Don't get me wrong. I'd love to have a sane Maxwell clone on this team. But to me he'd be playing Garcia's role, not Lin's role. Beverley is better suited for such a job.

Actually living in NY and getting cable I watched all of the games last year. Unlike many unfortunate Houstonians.

I don't think mad max would want to play with harden. he'd pack his bags pimp slap him and head out to philly.

He was also a great CP3 replacement the season before last. And that definitely wouldn't be a downgrade. You know how many games Lin was ineffective last season? I mean, the guy completely disappeared in the Playoffs. Don't even think about blaming it solely on him getting injured because he didn't do much that series even when he wasn't. Jack has better shot-creating ability, better leadership, better ball handling, and impacts a game more, imo. There's times I almost forget Lin is on the court. Camping out at the 3pt line doing nothing. Oh and I'm pretty sure Jarrett Jack has less turnovers than Lin. And since when does being 29-years old have to do with anything? You say that like that's a problem. This team could use a veteran point guard that knows how to control the game's tempo better and limit the mistakes our younger guards would make.

I'm pretty sure you're one of those people that look way into stats because that's the only way I can see you actually thinking Jarrett Jack isn't on Lin's level. He came off the bench last year and still had similar numbers as Lin lol. I'm going straight off the eye-test, though. Like I said, I'm not counting Lin out because its not like he's a bad PG, but don't act as though he's superior to any PG not at the elite level lol. If you put Jack in Lin's place last year, I have no doubts he'd of had a better season. Jack is extremely underrated. I'm not saying he's a superstar PG, but him and Lin are definitely on similar levels.

Lin is a combo guard but Mchale and management wanted him to play more PG.
