Your ability to judge NBA talent and potential is stunning for its lack of insight and understanding. Please see my post, 2 above yours.

What about Cuttino Mobley? Sure he's 37 years old, has a potential heart problem, and won't have Steve Francis to drive around matching ferraris with, but come on.

    Let's sign Cat!

I don't think the answer to our starting PG debacle is currently on this roster. Bev isn't a starter. He's perfect coming off the bench considering his production and salary. Great, defensive energy. Can start on occasion when needed.

If you move Lin to the second unit, you're just transferring the problem rather than fixing it. Had we not landed Harden and Howard, Lin would have fit this team well. But, stars are stars. We have two of them and their games aren't complemented to the fullest extent by Jeremy.

Lin's a good basketball player. He deserves to be in this league. Just, not on this current Rox roster.

We need to find just good enough PG's on the cheap. Have to take what the league gives you.

I always find it interesting when people say, "We need X!", followed by, "Jeremy Lin isn't X!", and then can't name a single other player who actually fits X, let alone is actually available.

It's right up there with the folks who want to just dump him and replace him with Beverley, without bothering to provide a feasible trade to free up that "wasted money" and spend it on other players.

Like, we get it, you think Lin sucks. Why not just say that instead of spamming the board with your rationalizations? If you think he doesn't fit the mold we need, then who does? If you think Beverley is better, then just say that Beverley should start and Lin needs to sit on the bench. At least the people who say those things are being honest with themselves.

This thread is stupid because Hakeem alone would make Harden look silly and make Dwight wish he'd never even heard the word ”post.”

Throw in The Glyde, and this is a done deal.

Mad Max would probably beat Parsons to death before anyone sets foot on the floor.

Lin might be allowed to carry Kenny Smith's jockstrap, but he'd probably turn it over.

How is this even a question?

Your examples of the ideal types for your idea of a combo 1/2 guard for the current Rockets' team are confusing to say the least. Kenny Smith was smaller than Lin with equal athleticism and no better defensive ability. Mad Max was lightning quick, but only an inch taller and much lighter. Elie was less than 2 inches taller and just slightly heavier, but far from a PG and rarely handled the ball. He was NEVER considered a ball-handler and NEVER ran the point. Drexler was more a SF, but had the superior size at 6'7" to dominate SGs, but was only 10 pounds heavier than Lin.

I fail to see any parallels in ANY of those players being a great combo 1/2 as Smith was always a PG, Maxwell was always a fast SG, Elie a bench superstar who subbed in for SG/SF and Drexler was a HOF SG/SF. None of those players are anything close to the starting quality combo 1/2 you are wishing Jeremy Lin would become, and I don't see any mention of any current NBA player that would fill the imagined role you want in order for a player to take Lin's spot and minutes and become this imaginary super combo guard.

Name someone you are thinking would fill the bill. All the players you listed were awesome in their own way for certain, but fail miserably to be the player you are wishing for to supplant Lin.

You need more of an explanation, maybe show us the player you've created on 2K13

I just don't think they comprehend clutch city heroes that you mentioned.

At least u are realistic about the limitations of our backup PGs.
However, The Piston in that era played really dirty. Haven't the rules changed to tone down on that sort of play?

Combo guards are at a premium. Lin may not be able to be the combo but we are stuck with him and maybe he can play effectively when Harden needs a rest. Bev is our future starter if not when the season starts. Canaan I think will be a project and bring in later to see if he can score. He has no defense really. Brooks can score but his defense is always suspect.

Maybe SG's Williams or BJ can also play some PG. We have a few guards that can play.Harden will handle most of the ball handling anyway so the others need to just get out of his way.

He was a very good college shooter. How do you know that that will transition over to the NBA where everyone he plays against is taller and more athletic than him? And who can he really defend? Is he tall enough to defend NBA shooting guards? No. Is he quick enough to defend NBA point guards without becoming a turnstile into the lane for them? Maybe. But maybe not. It is a long road to hoe into the NBA for limited players like Canaan.

We need a pg who is a pass first guard, a spot up shooter, and can attack the basket every once in a while. A pg on this team doesn't need a large role.

We already have option 1a and 1b.( in harden and Howard) so the point guards job is setting them up( first) and then benifit from the attention that those two will draw(second) with a good spot up shot or a quick attack to the basket.

I think if Lin understands that role( and works on his 3 point consistency, because it will be open for him) he is our guy.

I'm really hoping it all comes together

Welp, I agree with the majority stating the inconsistencies in the OP's post, but I understand what he was hinting at. I haven't given up on Lin yet, though. Especially with how hard he seems to be working to improve this offseason. So lets at least see how he plays this upcoming season before writing him off.

I feel like the addition of Beverley really may make that point guard spot interesting since I remember numberous games last season where Coach McHale played Beverley more than he'd play Lin.

I'm curious to see how Canaan turns out and if Brooks ever gets a chance to be our spark plug like he was a few years ago for us. It's just going to be tough for either player to take minutes from Bev or Lin, IMO.

As for someone I feel would be PERFECT for us at PG, though he's not attainable, I'd have to say someone like Jarrett Jack would be near the top of the list. He's fairly clutch and consistently seems to come up big when it counts. I remember watching him do that for the Warriors plenty of times last season. I haven't looked at his stats from last season, but he's always seemed capable of doing a little bit of everything. And he's tough as nails. Has a respectable jump shot. CAN CREATE HIS OWN SHOT. Solid size. I was hoping we'd be able to somehow get him this offseason lol. Plus, he's a vet and plays within his role. Great leader, as well. And has great ball handling skills. So I feel like guys similar to him would be a great fit for us. Guys like him, maybe Jerryd Bayless, etc.

I find this sort of old school homerism to be incredibly annoying. Starting with Drexler, how old do you think he was when he was traded to the Rockets? I will tell you the answer. 33. On the downside, or landslide of a great career. Harden at 24 would tear him up. While I never personally witnessed the Glyde play for Houston, having left the city in 1991 after having lower bowl season tickets for 2 years, he obviously was not the player at 33 that he had been a 5 years earlier. Don't believe me? Just look up his career stats.

And Hakeem? Hakeem at that point of his career probably had more skill than any center to ever play in the NBA. And he had the best timing of any center to ever play in the NBA. But on the other hand Hakeem was no where near athletically gifted as Howard. Howard is more athletic than any center that Hakeem ever play played against, unless Wilt and his careers overlapped, which I do not think happened. And yes, I did personally see Hakeem play 70 or so games. And so the contest between the two would be much closer than most would imagine.

I could go on, but I grow bored with this.

Jerrett Jack? Jerrett Jack???? OK. The guy had a career year last season. Good for him. It landed him in Cleveland. Not so good for him. But he would be an immediate downgrade in talent from Lin in almost every which way but 3 point FG%. And wouldn't he be older than every other Rocket not named Camby? I really do not get where people come up with ideas like this.

Beverly can't even defend Westbrook's backup Reggie Jackson in the last 1 and a half game. How's he going to be better than Jeremy Lin. Use logic rather than you hatred of Asian Americans.

I can not think of a player currently in the NBA that fits the criteria but I hear what you are saying.

Like a Tony Allen with better handles/jumper? Or a bigger Eric Bledsoe?

Lin has the physical tools to be a good/great defender, but I honestly think he is too smart to fill the Mad Max role. To do that you have to be a defensive-minded player with an ounce of crazy, like Ron Artest. There are very few players that are able to harness both of those qualities successfully.

I hate the be the one to tell you this, but those "Typical 99ers" have a lot more credibility on this board than you do.

So because someone criticizes Lin they are racist against Asian-Americans now?

It's funny how CFers have gone from being die-hard supporters of Yao Ming, to now being racist against Asian-Americans

Grow up man. This is about what he thinks is best for the HOUSTON ROCKETS.
