it's not an opinion, it's a fact, but it's dumb thing to argue about anyways. there's nothing wrong with hoodies. I wear hoodies up all the time when it's cold outside walking my dogs, etc. People on both sides try to blame it on the hoodie: pro trayvon - racially profiled because of a hoodie, pro zimmerman - he looked suspicious with a hoodie. More than likey if he didn't have a hoodie, GZ would have still questioned what he was doing and followed him. Arguing about a hoodie is dumb, it's clearly not the reason of why Trayvon was killed that night. The thing that went wrong was how both sides handled the situation when both met. We don't know exactly what happened when they both met, but if both just identify who they are and what they are doing, then nothing should have went wrong. People need to learn from this and to handle things better.
Perception is no longer there unless you want it to be? Are you joking? You think race doesn't still play a role? Yes, you can succeed DESPITE IT, but bias still exists. You don't think people making hiring decisions on "likability" and that part of that includes race/culture. You can't separate race and culture. People strongly identify the two. Many black celebs have reported being seen as threatening by others in certain situations. Look at Ben Kingsley - he had an Indian name and no one would give him an acting job, then he just changed it to Ben Kingsley and he started getting calls. If you think racism and bias don't exist today, you are one naive person.
of course it's still there, we're humans. What should you do though? Just work hard and overcome it or just stop and complain? Like your acting example, it's hard as hell for asian actors/actresses to break through, unless they get the typical kung fu or nerd parts. It's not just blacks who get bias. But guess what, it's life, you just have to deal with it. My roommate is a fireman, and he was pretty mad when the fire department had to have an easier written test for blacks only since it was too hard for them. And no, my roommate isn't white, he's asian. http://www.chron.com/news/houston-t...on-firefighters-sue-say-city-exam-1594400.php
SweetLou: It's no use, homie. Really...this case has divided the country and has heightened racial tensions, not only because of the verdict, but because of so many people trying to claim that racial profiling and racism altogether is not an issue in America. Clearly, on an hourly basis, racial profiling happens and people are unaware that they're doing it, because they've been conditioned by their peers, parts of the media and an intolerant society to believe inaccuracies related to minorities. The fact is that Trayvon and young African American men and women are racially profiled as thugs, or being unfamiliar and "up to no good," based on their skin color, cultural markers, or even the clothes they decide to wear. George Zimmerman isn't the first, nor will he be the last, to murder a young black teen after profiling him based on his race. Any person that tries to say race was never an issue in this case is lying to themselves to ignore the realities of our society. Any person that tries to argue that racism isn't an issue anymore is completely misinformed or naive. That, or they are part of the same group that believes GZ didn't instigate or murder a young man, and that he acted in self-defense against a "black" youth who was a thug based on his skin color, speech, clothing and location. It's disappointing that America is still at this point, even after we elected a multiracial president. It makes you wonder if people will ever change and lose their tunnel-vision viewpoint of our world.
This post should go in a dictionary next to the word Incompetent . A mind is a terrible thing to waste. Good lord.
No, what you said is that profiling, including racial profiling, can decipher between good and bad people.
So even though my father was BORN in Idaho and my mother in Mississippi, I am actually half-English, one-quarter-Welsh and one-quarter Scottish and actually NOT AN AMERICAN? Or should I just stick with English since it is earliest and majority?
That's a different scenario than being discussed here. My point is that people make judgments based on our skin, and there isn't a whole lot we can do about it. You can't legislate biased away. And racial profiling isn't honesty the greatest evil in the world. Was GZ a bad person for being suspicious of TM for wearing a hoodie and being black? Might I be suspicious as well I ask myself? I might be. But you know what I'd do, I'll call the cops and let them know my suspicions. That's what GZ did wrong, he took the law into his own hands by following the guy. And while it might not be illegal, it was unethical. Sometimes I wonder when there's a couple of officers checking bags at the subway entrance and I walk in with a massive stuffed black duffel bag. The cops look up at me, I look at them, and I walk right in, they don't even bother while they look at some chicks bag that can hardly fit her water bottle. You know what I think, they should be stopping me. Is that profiling? It is. Should race be part of profiling - that's a debate this country needs to have. There's a big difference between profiling and racism. As a marketing, we do profiling all the times - it's called segmentations. And that profiling includes race. Blacks, Hispanics, and White are all targeted differently with different messages and products. It's a dangerous game though - because when does profiling become harassment? Or discrimination. I think profiling to "check people out" is one thing. But if people are getting pulled over for speeding and thus minorities get more traffic tickets - that's discrimination. Or if stop n frisk results in people being caught with mar1juana and being busted on a drug charge when they were profiling for guns - yeah, that's a bit messed up too. I am not sure of the answer, but we need to have a debate here. I don't think GZ was a racist, but I do think he profiled TM. I don't know if that makes him a bad guy like I said, but let's just be realistic - if TM was white would GZ have stopped him? No.
So you form your opinions based on what Al Sharpton and Jessie Jackson tell you to do? Think for yourself
You're the white version of those two racist. Only idiots agree with the crap that comes out of their mouths and only idiot believe the crap that you type in the D&D. The only difference is those two don't hide behind a computer to stir up their base of morons and bigots. Hate comes from all walks of life. People like you are the worst because you are to coward to own up to your racism and hatred.
You're smarter than that tex. Like I said...You're a smart person. Just weak minded and full of hate.
so in other words you're slandering me by calling me a racist, but you cannot provide even a single post of proof? ...and you say I'm the one with hate? ha.
TM was not initially racially identified. He was initially noted for his casual behavior on foot on a rainy night. He was only tentatively.identified as black ("I think he's black...") when asked and then GZ voluntarily affirmed what he had suggested to the operator when he caught a better view of TM. That is not a pattern of behavior consistent with racial profiling. It's too tentative. In my tale, I wore a hoodie and I got profiled-- for behavior: brisk and determined straight-line walking.... towards a BRINKS truck that I hadn't even noticed was there. I'm not black. I was wearing shorts so my race was easily identifiable, yet I was deemed suspicioius because of the hoodie and the context of the BRINKS truck. As I said there were others coming in and out of the grocery store. You are imposing your prejudice on the facts of this case.
